The first thing I remember about the hiking path is a caterpillar. I was six, and till then, caterpillars were hungry blobs in picture books. The translucent emerald worm inched across a branch at my eye level.  “It’s like a gummy worm!” I said with bug-wide eyes. “Why don’t you eat it?” My dad suggested.
