With an aggressive pneumatic hiss, the train entered the station. I heaved my suitcases off the train and caught my breath on the platform. I looked around and saw someone standing just by the entrance, a well dressed man wearing a tweed suit. As I approached he asked “Mr Johnson?”. I nodded breathlessly and he greeted me warmly, shaking my hand. We went straight to his car and he put my bags into the back. As we drove into the village, he chatted openly. “Its mighty good to meet you Mr Johnson, we’ve been waiting for quite a while for a n...

I remembered that time we watched the sun rise over the water. We were sitting on that jetty, a blanket around our shoulders watching the light spread out until it filled the lake. I went back there recently. I stood on the spot where we sat, the exact plank I think, and I looked out over the water. The sun had already risen, it took me a while to get out of bed, but the feeling was still there. There was a heron stood out in the water, balanced precariously on one leg. It was watching the water, looking for food I presume, and I wished I ha...

Captain’s Log: 15th January, 2040Its been a couple of days since the crash and I’ve been recovering here since then. I’ve been calling it a crash, but I don’t know for certain that was what it actually was. I’ve been playing it over and over in my head trying to work out what actually happened and what I could have done differently. The mission is over I know that much but if rescue is coming then I have heard nothing yet. I will wait, it’s the only thing I can do right now, and continue to document in this journal. Its something to do at le...

April 6th, 1846Papa showed me some pages from his newspaper today. It showed some kind of advertisement but I couldn’t tell what it was for. It was some drawings of big fields with lots of corn and wheat. There were so many animals everywhere and everyone just seemed so happy. Papa asked if I wanted to go there and I said yes straight away. Everyone looked so happy and I wanted Mama and Papa to be like that again. They had been shouting at each other more recently, they are under a lot of stress. Mama said she didn’t like all of the moving t...

I hated long-haul flying but my job necessitated it. The crowded hot tub in the sky always left me feeling dirty and tired. This once was particularly bad. Crying baby, obnoxious neighbours and crappy food. I had just wished to be off the godforsaken thing. I would give anything now to be back in that stale air. I’ve been sat here for at least 6 months now, surviving on a diet of bugs, berries and tinned food left over from the crash. Luckily for me I happened to land near an underground stream that briefly bubbles to the surface so water ha...
Do you believe in love at first sight? A corny pickup line or a deep searing question? Most people don’t know if the really do believe. They take a long, hard look at their partner and whisper a ‘yes’ dripping with honey. Do they really believe themselves though? Was it really first sight? I always had an answer though, an answer I really believed in.YesI remember the day, the hour, the minute. I recall every detail of the surroundings and how he looked. The smell of the cinnamon in the air which was full of dust mites spinning in the beam o...
