Tom tuck and rolled, allowing the momentum from the truck to carry him into the gully and over the berm by the side of the road. This was embarrassing. Not for him, Tom had done everything he could. He was embarrassed for the youth of this nation. He was sad for them and thought "Bless their hearts" as he used the velocity of his roll to get quickly into position. Tom kneeled down and smoothly pulled the rifle off of his back steadying the barrel as he sighted the truck and the whooping and hollering youngster who had shoved him from the b...

"Do you know who these belong to? I think these are Joey's. That's definitely Sunrise Films logo on all of this stuff." Amanda said as she looked through the camera equipment scattered throughout the storage unit. "What does it matter? Can you sell them on Facebook Marketplace for me or not?" Sam said, starting to feel like his sister was going to let him down yet again. This always happened and it infuriated him. He thought this would be an easy slam dunk, and give them a chance to bond, while at the same time putting some much needed d...

Michael watched as Scott walked up through the thickening snowstorm. Already the snow was starting to pile up on the old stone walls surrounding the Arboretum and was giving the grass a serious dusting. Michael hoped everything had gone well with Scott's trip down to South Campus. "Take your shoes off out in the hall Scotty-Boy!" Michael yelled as the door opened. "Yes, sir!" "How'd ev...

The man they called King sat in the basement of City Hall with his head down. He was waiting. It had been a long series of days and this next push would determine what direction the next chapter of his life took. His family was in the Cascades waiting for him in their cabin. It was stocked and fully sustainable off the grid with Solar Panels and rain barrels, not to mention the nearby creek which provided a perfect and nearly inexhaustible water supply. He could live up there, hunt elk and bear, fish the streams for trout and salmon, start a...

I was lucky to make it back from Mexico alive. It all started out innocent enough. It was just a little two-week foreign exchange program between my high school, and a local high school in Torreon, a small mining town in Central Mexico.Richard and I were going along with twelve other Seniors, chaperoned and led by our Spanish teacher Mr. Fitzgerald. We left nearly two weeks before Halloween and Richard and I had thought about getting mushrooms to trip on our trip down south, making it that much more of an epic adventure, but it turns out we wo...

Julian wandered outside of his hotel. The sound of the ocean was near, and the sea smell was wonderful in its tangy immediacy. It just felt good to be free Julian thought as he looked up at the stars. He could see the big dipper dangling askance in the sky and there was Orion off to the side, and the moon hung ominously over the ocean. Julian walked along the promenade breathing in the deep China Grove air and trying to figure out what he was going to do next. ...

I walked outside to find the two of them up in the tree house. It was still under construction but was about 80% done now. Seth and Isabelle were in the hammock on the second level, he had insisted on building a top of the line tree house for Isabelle so that she could experience the magic of being outside and playing under the stars. We already had a pretty bad ass deck, no railings anywhere which I guess wouldn’t pass code, but for now it was great for us. I’d be worried about having this kind of set-up if Isabelle were any younger, she tu...

Quarantine Carpool“Welcome back to the Today Show! Thank you all for watching this morning! We’ve all been dealing with this lock down in different ways as communities have banded together some people have no choice but to find second jobs, side hustles as they’re called these days. Ella swept the log cabin clean. Their house was on the edge of a gorgeous lake in the depths of the woods. The lake was big, wide enough to take in the whole horizon and cold. James had been busy. Sketching his drawings and writing his research papers. The Native Tribes had welcomed them when they saw how beautiful Ella was, at the time she was six-months pregnant, and how earnest and intelligent James was. She finished sweeping and went out into the yard to gather some firewood to start the evening blaze in the kitchen. They would have fres...

Saturday 3/09/2002Jake and I leave tomorrow, finally. We’re driving across America, to get Maeve and scoop her up from rehab to take a little vacation. I was running low on funds, but my new roommate generously gave me his half of the rent early, so now I have $300 to spend this week on Spring Break. Super Pumped!Jake is supposed to pick me up from my parent’s house tomorrow, early afternoon, but first Teddy, Alex and I are going to have one last hurrah here in Charlotte. Then I head out for an epic transcontinental Road Trip…Jack Kerouac, h...

Mary woke up, still a little groggy from the Ambien and wine from last night! She looked outside, the sun was already beginning its daily route around the world and looked like it had got a head start on her.“Headed to the office honey…I thought I’d let you sleep. Coffee’s fresh and I picked you up a Danish at the corner store. Enjoy! Good luck writing today.”“Thanks Baby.” She croaked with her still sleep choked voice. The bed felt so warm, and yet the sheets were cool and refreshing, utterly inviting, no need to get out of bed just yet, Mar...
