It started with a drop on her nose that rapidly evolved into a deluge. Running along the side of the road, she aimed for the overpass she knew would provide shelter. The pelting of rain became a roar loud enough to drown out the sound of the river flowing beneath the bridge.Thunder cracked and Caitlin yelped, tripping over a root. She barely caught herself. Stumbling, still running. Lightning split the night sky above. The thunder that followed was instantaneous. It sounded like the world might crack in two.She sat on the dry dirt beneath th...

It's nauseating. Looking up through the endless floors and ceilings of glass above and below, the walls on either side. The exterior of the building has a dark tint on all of the glass surfaces, but they can see through it as if it weren't even there. Even with the tint, it's still warm. She had to stop bringing home every sad, mewling sap she came across on her way home from work. Dumping a lunch bag, a purse, and her keys on the table, she began to pet and soothe the wide-eyed, fluff ball she held under one arm. This cat's white fur had seen better days, and the lady set to work filling the sink with warm water and Dawn dish soap. The matted cat reeked o...

“Jessica, Michael is here.”“Oh...okay, thanks mom.”“Hey Jessica.”“Hey Michael, I wasn't expecting you.”“What's all this?”“Listen, you have to swear not to tell anyone.”“Tell anyone what?”“I'm leaving.”“What do you mean you're leaving? Leaving where?”“I'm going...across the wall.”“You're joking. Do you want me to just put a bullet in your head now, save you the trouble?”“That's not funny.”“You're damn right it's not. You can't go out there Jessica!”“I have to go. I can't stay here one more minute, and I have to know what's really out there.”“...
