“Play for free, or we break that thing,” the sergeant said, adding a casual glance to Jack’s flute to clarify what “thing” would be broken. Jack was sure these men would break a few other things, just for posterity, should he decide to not play. The threat was sealed as two men stood up, positioned so as to easily snare the musician should he attempt to flee.
