The tedium of a Ta Ta Creek summer day was shattered when the 1958 Desoto pulled into my dad’s driveway. Rust bubbled from the paint on the doors of the old Dodge and from the top where a makeshift roof rack had been installed. A cloud of black smoke poured from the tail pipe.
