The moon sat perched atop two thin clouds. Its light shone on an ancient castle littered with holes and cracks in the foundation. Its once fierce and dominating series of towers reduced to a single withered pillar, barely holding its own weight up. A figure zoomed ahead in the night sky, its leathery wings appearing as a giant bat soaring into the single pillar of the castle. The beast let out a short sigh that bounced across the tower's stone walls. He descended a staircase leading to the lower levels of the castle. He surveyed the vast...

A small lizard sluggishly scurried from a dead bush to beneath the floorboards of the stairs of an old rusted saloon. The heavy footsteps sounded like booming quakes to the reptile's ears. Its sand-colored body sank in with the ground around it acting as a makeshift shield against the eyes of the large predator. The lizard began to slow in its march to the stairs. Finally, its overheated body stopped completely, and the predator closed in. The lizard desperately tried to carry itself away, but the harsh sting of the sand beneath it and the b...

There was no sound he loved more than this, the roaring of the crowd, the sound of his spells sparking and exploding. Everything was perfect. The sparkling eyes of the audience as they howled with praise. Their arms shooting up, cheering the magician. “Now everyone please calm your cheers, for my next act requires absolute focus.” Kyrin the magician spoke in a deep powerful voice that commanded reverence from all that heard it. The audience silenced themselves almost immediately. He grinned widely with narrow cold eyes watching them shu...

The wind shook the tree branches creating a sound that had the same deafening tone as rain. “Windy day out,” The man claiming to be my father said, desperate to make some sort of conversation. “Sure,” I replied, unwilling to even offer him a look in the eyes. I don’t know why I’d agreed to go on this hunting trip with him. Nothing was forcing me to say yes, he just showed up out of the blue one day after being gone for twenty-three years. “Do you hate me?” he aske...

Lighting struck the dark sky. The white light ripped through the air crashing down against the graveyard's dirt as a bellowing roar howled across the night. The air rattled as bones shivered in their once-lifeless coffins. A zombie's hand rose out from the dirt, clawing at the earth around it desperate to grab hold of something living to chew and tear in its repulsive maw. "These old movies are all so cliché, I don't know why you like them so much," Holly said, her voice cutting through the tension being emitted by the TV. "I don't know ...

Maybe I could do a superhero story? I think as the vision of tall winding towers looms over the bright gray streets of a city block. Cars drive across the streets as a superhero of white and blue flies above the clouds. Impossi-man slowly falls to one of the rooftops. The skies blackened as his villain appeared in a cloud of black smoke. No that's stupid, people would just look down on me for writing dumb superhero power fantasies. How about a horror story? Yeah, I could do that, horror never gets old! The visions of the city swirl away...
