The book was useless. It was the seventh one this month, picked up from a traders vessel in the Kronlin Strait. The man had pitched it to Nerida like she was a customer at the market, instead of a pirate robbing him of wares. ‘True stories,’ he had said. ‘Never before seen insight into all the legends of the seven seas.’She should have known better than to trust a salesman. The titular legend, the only legend that mattered, was vague in this scripture as all the others. The legend of the Demons’ Heart.Nerida rolled her eye...
Copied Carolina Shaw who copied from Ivy Carter Dear Reedsy, Blxxii emailed you endless and endless times, however, you ignored. She needs you to respond. WE NEED you to reply, please. It's all about downvoting. "Oh, this is just a thing about downvoting, B-O-R-I-N-G!" And then you skip. This is an important message, Reedsy. Our friend Ari Reynes, has been downvoted from 4,600 to 1,000. This is unacceptable and the hard-worked for points are gone-poof. This isn't a threat, but a lot of people are taking breaks from Reedsy. ...
Romilly “Look, Milly! It’s a robin! That means spring is coming.” I roll my eyes. Despite my small appearance, I am not actually a child, and the fact that strangers think so is somewhere between amusing and infuriating. Of course, I prefer to catch people off guard. So I dress in bright clothes, wear pigtails and go by Milly instead of my full name. Until I strike. My latest victim is a widow and a piano teacher. I signed up for lessons with her through the library computer. I used the fake account my father left me. Jack Roman. T...

Tattoo; It's not a tattoo, exactly. It's permanent, i think, but it's not made of ink, not pressed into skin by needles. The dark swirls, thorns and branches, buds blossoming into flowers; somehow this feels too flimsy to be a tattoo.Like its permanence and fixedness are not mutually inclusive. As a sharp pain flashes behind my eyes, i watch the vine start to spread, darkness spidering all across my skin.Baxter.Baxter was missing. This was not unusual. He had taken to sneaking out the windows and running into the forest in search of squirre...
Three days laterI can’t keep staring at these photos. Every time I see myself in them I feel like crying. This is who I am, or at least who I was. This bored, angry girl, is who everyone will see when they look at me. Especially Jeremy. He hates me, and I’m not entirely sure I want to know why.I tear my eyes away from the wall and walk down the hallway into the kitchen, finding a note with my name on it. Vicki:(That’s your name, in case you forgot) Lila and Lily had a swimming lesson, and Jeremy has a D&D game, s...
I open my eyes to see a white ceiling. There is a small blob of red paint next to the light fixture, which looks like the death star mid-explosion. A lightbulb in the centre is surrounded by shapes attached to the fixture by long, thin pieces of plastic. The shapes look to be somewhere between triangles and trapezoids. There are two cords dangling from it, with small silver spheres on the ends. One of the cords is longer than the other.I wonder, what in the world possessed the owner of this room to buy such a thing? This thought is incredibly...

This is life or death. That was what the poster said. I rolled my eyes. It was so stupid. Every single year, there would be a contest for the king’s champion. The champion would be chosen based on a series of contests that sometimes proved fatal. The winner would go up against the dark knight who had kidnapped the princess of the kingdom, Lira, and only one would survive. Did I forget anything? Oh yeah. I’m one of the judges. Lira’s mother died a very long time ago, and the new Queen, Elena, is my mother, which makes us stepsisters. Whic...

Silva raced through the town, as fast as she could without revealing she was faster than the average human. The reason for this was, of course, that she wasn't human. Silva, and her friends Raven and Coral, were witches. Silva was an animal witch. She could control animals, as well as speak their languages and turn into them. Raven was a mind witch. she could read, control and link minds. She could also move objects with her mind if she tried hard enough. And Coral... well even the high council didn't know what to do with Coral. She cal...
