I am a former journalist, editor, publications manager and, more recently, an author.
I worked for Donald Woods, the most outspoken anti-apartheid editor in South Africa (and central character in the movie Cry Freedom) during the height of the Apartheid era – at the time when this story is set. Like the character in the story, I did cover the aftermath of a squatter camp removal outside Duncan Village, near East London and, while the broken woman left behind under a thorn tree on the hillside is real and her image is with me still, the story built around her is fiction.
I have written five novels, the first of which won a prize and a publishing contract with Random House. I recently co-authored a book on Workplace Wellness and am currently working on my sixth novel as well as a number of children’s book for early readers.
I have had short stories published in numerous anthologies in Australia and overseas and recently won the flash fiction section of an Australian literary competition.
