She appears peripherally, in a shimmering blaze of brightness, like sun glinting off a mirror splice. I catch my breath and turn my head slowly towards her, anticipating her disappearance. I'm a rapidly aging Gen Xer and animal lover. I was born in Chicago, adopted at six weeks, and raised on a farm. Wasn't everyone? I've lived in the midwest, a bit in the south, NYC, LA, and Las Vegas. I worked in the bar and nightclub industry for about a century, but now live in San Diego and am pursuing my lifelong dream of writing. I write mostly personal essays and memoir, but also dabble in fiction and historical fiction, speculative memoir, and a touch of horror.
