Audio log 1: So, tell me what happened. What were the days leading up to their experimentation on you? They took the weakest ones. Mostly girls though, the scared, smallest ones. They all came back dead. The first day, most of us couldn’t handle seeing them. The ones who broke down were the ones taken first as well. The worst part was, they made us take them, as if letting them stare into us could make us obedient. It did for most, but some fought back as kids always do, only this time none of us could win. So, we learned to keep our hea...
The pathway is obvious. A streak of fresh dirt, golden coloured, stark amid the viridian sea of grass. Into the forest there is no other direction but along this path that cuts through the tall grass of the prairie. Only problem is, the nearer it gets to the edge of the forest, where grass is obscured by dark woods, the more likely the chance of an ambush. Like I said, the pathway is too obvious. We don't have a choice. The children will get lost in the almost chest high grass, and the path allows for the quickest access into the woods. ...
I had been dressed by the best designers. I had been dressed using magic, clothed with tendrils of sunlight. Whatever I wore before, none compared to the gown I was adorned with as I floated into the ballroom. I barely felt the thin straps on my shoulders. The dress shone and shimmered, displaying the condensed stars in the bodice, and the milky way itself in the train. It was a showstopper. I made sure of it, spending night after night perfecting this look. My hair was gathered and pinched at the back with one single pin, topped with a swir...
I tapped on the mahogany door."Anita?" I asked lightly, reading of the blocky words plastered on the door. The 't' hung on its side.My words rang across the silent room to the girl, perched on the window sill. She turned, hair that stopped short of her bony shoulders swinging in her wake. Curtain bangs hung low across her eyes, but could not disguise her bright blue irises. She remained kneeling on the window sill, a small nod inviting me in. I closed the door behind me.As I joined her, she turned her attention back to the window. Or rather, ...

“I mean, they've got flesh and bones, just like us-” “But they are grown in a lab, without any real parents and they have artificial intelligence, just like any robot. Not to mention, they could do weird things.” “So they're not real. Not really.” “Exactly.” Their discussion trailed off. From my vantage point on the archway above massive doors, the steps receded and their heels trailed off the edge of my vision. I lay perched across the ledge, my side pressing onto the multicoloured glass. I stared out into the slowly rising glow tha...

She watched from the window of the trailer, cane in hand. The massive tent blazed with light and sound. Tonight, the show begins. The flap blew to one side dramatically, light flooding onto the grass, illuminating the feet of the rushing horde. Bodies spilled in, filling the seats like hot magma, flowing round the perimeter and colliding with itself, sending sparks into the air. The tent buzzed, each person shrieking above the other. Light, golden against the silver moonlight, spilled in like smoke from one side, billowing in as unrelent...
The sky shone under my feet. I glided through the clouds, leaving them a little blotchier, inching warily across the scratched surface. The sun looked a little worse for wear as it sat trapped under the ice, bobbing along with the lazy flow of water. Small town, big day, my mother said as she plaited my hair. I had clutched my skates under my arms, feeling their worn-out leather rub off on my underarms. She patted my shoulder, grunting as she hoisted herself up higher on her pillows. I reached out to steady her. Slowly, I said, and s...
