The rain, just moments before an April shower, pounded in earnest now and wind drove it in horizontal sheets across the windshield. Spring in southwest Ohio – tomorrow it might be eighty degrees. Relaxing her grip on the small bag of groceries, Nola settled in to wait out the storm. She watched, mesmerized, as heavy drops drummed an erratic rhythm on the garbage cans in the alley beside her gate.
