The doorknob rattled softly. Shooting up, my eyes were fixed onto the door. The noise stopped. I slowly sunk back down into my hair-ridden bed. She shifted to the opening of the cave. The fragrance of fresh air was something she missed throughout the winter- wet but fresh. The frigid air through her nose alone made her want to go back to her babies, but with one last look at the mass of warm bodies, she knew what she had to do and what she had to risk. She turned to the passenger window. She knew what she did but she needed help. The fog on the window made the world seem like a kaleidoscope of white, grey, brown, and green. Fallen ice clung to the bottom perimeter of the window. It glistened as the glow of the passing cars illuminated it. She was already bored out of her mind not to mention the constant awkward tension made mere seconds feel like minutes.
