Amongst the tall grass and sedges in the front yard lay rain-rotted petrol canisters, rusted oil drums, a defunct motorbike beneath tarpaulin and the husk of a white Ford Transit, hoisted on a jack with the tyres removed. I watched from the window as dad thanked the delivery bloke and waved him off.
