I hate deadlines! I’m told I was born late...past my due date. Maybe that’s why I have found myself doing things at the last minute...procrastinating...it must be in my blood. I was almost late for my own wedding! After forty years it’s etched into me...I seem unable to change. As I ponder my predicament I look out the window and watch the snow, hoping to be filled with inspiration...with the words I need to reach the 1,000 word minimum or even the 3,000 word maximum...I ‘ll settle for somewhere in the middle. I pray the God of Words will pro...

Recently Bill has been hinting about a very special Christmas present. After three years of dating, our relationship has reached the stage where I’m ready to get married and start a family. I put my favorite Christmas CD in the player, pull back the sheer curtains and watch the big, fluffy snowflakes descend on the grass and slowly accumulate. We’re goin to have a white Christmas! I smile as I recall white Christmases from my childhood...making a snowman with my brother...snowball fights with friends...sliding down the hill on a plas...

When my cell phone rings I hear, “Unknown caller”. Must be a telemarketer. I let it ring, unanswered. Then the phone alerts me...now there’s a voicemail. I pick up the phone and listen to the message. “This is Attorney Carl Swanson, calling for Roger Sterling. Please call me back at 7853250595...I need to talk to you...I have something important to tell you. Thank you.” I wonder what this can be about. Why am I getting a call from an attorney? Is someone suing me? I haven’t done anything wrong. There’s only one way to find out. I call t...

It’s Monday morning and I’m sipping my coffee when my boss walks into my office. “There’s been a break-in at the Sugar and Spice Bakery,” Roger says. I look up from my computer. “Anything missing?” “Don’t know, yet. Beth and Will discovered the back door was open when they arrived at 5:30 this morning. The police are already there, securing the scene. Get on down there and see what you can find.” I grab my bag with my camera, fingerprinting kit, and other necessary items for an investigation. As I shift gears and head down Main Street I...

“I want a divorce.” “What do you mean?” I stared at my wife. Alexandria stood by the door, appearing to be on her way out. “I mean I can’t live with you anymore.” I was happy and I thought Lexi was too. Although we only dated two months before I proposed and she accepted, we have been married for ten years and have been raising two beautiful, well mannered children…a boy, for me and a girl, for her. I thought everything was perfect…or at least as perfect as most marriages seem to be. I was in the middle of a sentence and deep in thought...

I have done everything I can think of to make the house look festive, including a centerpiece for the dining room table. However, the mood is somber when Laura asks, “Sara, please pass the gravy.” Sara looks at her with contempt in her eyes. “You can reach it.” Laura glares back at her. “We were raised to pass the food and not reach across the table.” Sara nearly spills the gravy as she grabs the boat and shoves it toward David. I certainly didn’t expect such animosity to spread across my Christmas table after I married Sara’s father a m...
