It was so terribly cold. Snow was falling, and it was almost dark. Waves hit the boat softly as I rowed to the shore. The silver line was nothing like it once was, it no longer shined, and it no longer glowed. But the most important thing, it no longer kept me out.I thought I could never come back.Once I crossed the silver line I was gone for good.Once you crossed the silver line, you were gone for good. But that's the one thing I would never accept. Because you couldn't be truly gone, you just couldn't be..You would never leave me.Right?I sp...

There was a girl once. There were many girls in fact. A guy or two but mostly girls. The girl on my mind was the one who played me songs on her piano and held me when I was sad. She made me smile, she made me laugh and she made me happy. There was a boy once. With red hair and amber eyes who lived across the street, he wrote me stories and held my hand. I loved him. And he loved me. He loved the girl who played piano and she loved him back. I loved the girl who played the piano and she loved me. We loved each other. We had e...
*Lumi uses he/they pronouns and therefore the pronouns may switch during some sentences and paragraphs. The PierJune 7th 2031The day is warm. The kind of warm that makes you lazy. Lumi and I are laying like starfish on the pier, arms and legs outstretched as we look at the clouds and watch the day go by. It's a good kind of silence, just the birds chirping the ocean waves and the happy feeling of just being in each other's company. At some point during the day a bit after noon when the sun was starting its downward descent Lumi sits up and fid...

The trees dance in the wind. Their pale purple leaves fall off of long golden branches whose roots stretch deep beyond the pale bluegrass and deep into the core of Ziniriya. The trees sing their songs and whisper secrets in your ears, the soft melody filling you up. Birds with long silver tail feathers fly over cotton candy skies, their chirps echoing like ringing bells and laughter making you wish you were in on the joke. A stream runs throughout changing from yellow to pink to green as it bounces over rocks splashing the rocks with its swe...
Happily ever afters are just bull shit. Happily ever afters cause unrealistic expectations and just generally are unreachable. Take Cinderella for instance sure she gets the prince but why did she need him in the first place? Why is it that every fairytale is centered around the princess getting the prince? Like what if she’s gay? What if she has better things to do with her life besides getting married? There's more to life than throwing a party, putting on a ring, and considering yourself entwined for life. A woman tied to a man. The ...
“How are you?” Ollie asks. ‘What do you mean? Im fine.” Ollie sighs. “You keep saying that.” “What is that supposed to mean?” I lay down on the floor and face my friend. Ollie throws their hands up in exasperation. “Byn has been being an as and talking shit about you behind your back! And you're asking me what up?” They look at me “And the soccer party,” they whisper beneath their breath. “I mean she's just heartbroken. Honestly, I feel really guilty, I wish I could help her.” “You want to help her? Why?” “Because she's a person and sh...
“Everythings ready for the ritual!” Ea exclaimed. I sigh and bury my forehead into the pillow. “Do we have to?” I moan.Ea puts their hands on their hips. “Yes, yes we do.”“Whyyyyyyyy.”“Because, and besides, I'm doing this for your greater good, not mine, so you're welcome.”“I didn't ask you to!”Ea raises their eyebrows and puts their hands on their hips. “You need this, you've got it bad.”“No, I don't!” Ea smirks. “You know I vaguely remember something like this happening..” They start spinning around in circles and flapping their ...
I stared out the window longingly at the raindrops hitting the glass with soft plinks. It was the first rain in a while and I longed to go outside. Letting the raindrops soak my hair. “Ahhem.” I looked over to see my friend glancing at me questioningly, her arms on her elbows leaning in close to me. And she had that sort of snarky I can see right through you look. “What are you thinking about?” She asked. “Nothing.” I responded in a tone that we both knew was definitely not nothing. “They emailed me again.” I sighed. “Isn't that good?”...
Sadie: Hey I stared at the screen blankly looking at the email I had just pulled up. I hadn't expected to hear from her well ever really. I thought the distance between us was too much to cross but I guess that's what technology is for. Not in my right mind considering it was early on a Monday morning and I forgot to put coffee in the machine the last night I responded. Olivia: Hey Her response was almost immediately like maybe she had been sitting there the whole time waiting for me to respond. It was hard no to read into that. Sadie: To be...
Dear friendDear ex-friendDEAR JERK!Dear heartbreaker..Dear, You know who you are,Therapists always say you should whenever having strong emotions write down what you're feeling. I don't go to a therapist, it just seems like common knowledge. So I'm writing a letter to you not that you would never read this but it’s to you nonetheless. Maybe you’ll find it in my closet one day. But hopefully, you will never go through my closet. Because never going through someone else's closet is also common knowledge.Everyone has their stories of first hear...

Life is a ping pong game. The table is the earth and humans are the balls placed upon the table. The paddles are the unseeable forces that control everything, emotions, motivations, desire. We, humans, are the balls because we are controlled by our emotions, our desires and yet we go places. We bounce around and around, back and forth. We are unpredictable. We change direction, we are never satisfied and always moving because that is human nature. Esther was very much that ball. She bounced around and around. England, China, and New y...

I sit perched on the window sill. My legs stretched out, book in my lap. The house is quiet, the only sounds are the wind blowing through the curtains and the chirp of the birds. Tendrils of warm air curl around my legs and beg me to come with them to run free be free. I run my fingers over the stained glass window, the glass-smooth like water. No one knows what color the window truly is. It changes based on where you're standing. Sometimes cool deep tones of blue calm ocean colors, others fiery reds and oranges, and sometimes a little bit o...

The rain pounded the car like angry bees. The windshield wipers had their work in for them as they cleared the window over and over again. Thunder rumbled in the distance like a melody of drums up in the sky. Everything was grey, that plain drab color, the color of lunch meat and belly button lint. The car was soaked in a coat of mud and it was hard and crusted near the bottom. Nevertheless, my mom was just as cheery as ever which almost made it worse. If my feelings were attuned to the weather I think the current forecast would be pretty ac...

My small honda Prius bumped around as I drove up the gravel driveway. Rocks hit the side of the car with tiny plinks. Mud covered the wheels and the doors of the car as I drove through puddles and I thought miserably that I would probably have to give it a good washing when I got home. A small house lay in front of me. Small it might be but it felt like it was towering over me.I hadn't been inside in years. Cobwebs were strung from the doorway like Halloween decorations. The windows were cracked. Mice skittered over the steps and the wh...

I slammed the car door behind me and stepped out into the sun. The day was warm. The type of warm where you didn't need any extra layers a day where you might be able to wear shorts. The smell of wet grass wafted through the air and the sounds of cheer and happiness rang in my ears. And yet I still didn't know if I was ready. “Sweetie pie, you ready?” My dad asked. He was kneeling right in front of me, his mousy hair combed and his blue eyes sparkled with happiness. I shook my head. “Come here.” He beckoned me closer and wrapped me in ...
