Alice’s hands shook as she walked down the hall. The squeaking of her sneakers on the floor, the smell of disinfectant, the buzzing of the fluorescent yellow lights; it was too much. Everything was overwhelming. At the end of the hall, she took a steadying breath, trying to quell the shaking in her hands as she paused in front of room 212.
