The Shrimp Incident of ‘92 It was the spring of 1992 in my third year of Hotel and Restaurant Management school when two other students and I were chosen for a weekend internship at a fancy resort on Lake Powell. Lake Powell is the largest lake in Arizona and is most famous for its Rainbow Bridge. There was no way that I could have known that this would forever change my life. After they had bought us breakfast and introduced us to the various department managers, we started our internship work. It was mostly shadowing the managers to se...

4/1/2020 Dear Journal, I am not sure how this goes but I’m gonna try out this journaling thing. Everyone seems to be doing it and this is my first one. Geez, I’m 50 years old and doing this for the first time. It’s been a helluva year so far, this 2020. So many bad things going on makes me want to pack up, leave everything behind, and live a simpler life. I am not sure if that’s possible, but the thought of it sure beats what I am doing now. Its becoming clear to me that I just can’t wait around and let life come to me now. Bye for now....

Jimmy and Lauren were having their usual breakfast at their favorite coffee house in town. While Jimmy normally has a full breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and hash browns, today he was only having toast and coffee. “Aren’t you hungry, Jimmy?” Lauren noticing the smaller than normal breakfast. “What’s wrong?” “Ah, nothing wrong at all. I just didn’t feel like eating a bunch today.” He hoped that he had convinced her that all was okay. It wasn’t. He was hoping all would be more than okay and maybe even life changing by the end of the day...

Tail Winds Animal Transport CoCaptain Andrew was a retired commercial airline pilot who had put in his years in the cockpit and had looked forward to retirement just like everyone else does at that time. After a year of playing golf, hanging out with all of the other retirees, and even eating at home fairly regularly, he was bored. He missed the action of being out and about and the freedom of flying. One of his pilot friends had a small plane just sitting in his hangar and not getting flown as much as he had hoped. Once he heard An...

It was the middle of January and the snow around Mark’s Rocky Mountain cabin had the effect of blanketing the area in majestic whiteness. Every morning after new snow had fallen, it was exciting to see the new deer and bunny tracks all over his property.Tonight, he was planning on an extraordinarily special night because Karen was coming up from the city. Due to their busy schedules, they didn’t always get to see each other as much as they would have liked. They have been a couple since college and finally three years after graduation, they ...

The Irish Spring DanceIt was typical in my family that whichever kid was graduating from high school that year, would also get to go to Ireland for that summer as a graduation present. My mom was born and raised there, and we still have family over there. To date, my oldest sister has been living over there for about 30 years. I was 17 years old when I made his trip.I took my bike with me and rode miles around the country exploring things the best way I knew how. At first, riding on the wrong side of the road was weird. Once ...

The Blow Off LetterThis happened many years ago before the age of cellphones, pagers, and even online dating. I believe I was about 21 years old at this time. The answering machines, if you had one, worked off of a tiny cassette tape. I knew this girl, Deanna, in high school. She was much too pretty and exotic to be interested in me, let alone even know that I even existed. She was tall, of Spanish descent and had long flowing black hair, a beautiful smile, and the sexiest voice you can imagine. Oh her voice, it was just the right amoun...
