“I am Timothy LaFontaine-Johnson and I am not a man to be taken lightly. I am a force of nature. There are men who enter into a room and make no noise. Quiet, weak, men who tremble at the thought of a conversation and run from danger. I am not a weak man. My bloodline is strong and my responsibilities are many. I will not fail those who depend on me. I will not shirk my duties. I will sell. I will win. I am Timothy LaFontaine-Johnson, and I will not be denied.” Tim stared expectantly at the woman in front of him. Her face was hard to read ...

I step forward to accept the woman’s awkward hug. I feel the shame wash over me once again. The waves of doubt, fear, and embarrassment radiate off my body, so strongly I am absolutely sure everyone in the line can feel it. But I plaster a smile on my face and tell her how much her story inspires me. How thankful I am to be a part of her personal miracle. It’s all garbage. It was a beautiful, sunny day in Budapest and as the 747 dropped like a brick through another blast of turbulence A.J. regretted ever leaving. When compared to all of the other strange and wonderful things the world presents us with it is relatively mundane. Houses have windows. Birds enjoy bathing in water and flying into said windows. So it stands to reason that on a few rare occasions a bird will fly towards a window that is, much to the bird’s surprise, quite open. This bird, upon realizing that it is indoors, will invariably see a sink filled with water and decide to take a nic...

My head hurts. I’m upside down and my head hurts. There’s blood trickling down into my nose. I think it’s coming from a gash the seatbelt caused but I can’t turn my neck to look. Some lady is yelling at me through the windshield. She looks like an EMT. I can’t hear what she’s saying but it doesn’t matter. I can see another car in the distance with more EMTs around it. The car I hit. The driver is sitting on the road next to her car. She’s screaming and pointing in my direction, probably telling them how I cut her off. How I drifted into her ...
