The L train was packed wall to wall. Ferne held her bag between her legs, face awkwardly turned to the side so that it wouldn’t bang into the shoulder of the woman in front of her. Ida’s flower shop was at the corner of the street, between the second hand bookstore and local bakery. The flower shop was small, and cluttered, and Ida ran the place completely on her own. The townspeople gossiped about how the young woman was a little strange at times.
