The blistering heat created subtle waves across the fields for as far as I could see. As I waited in the beating sun, I saw Little Orphan Annie dancing across the waves, Sandy in tow. Instead of the dog, I had a worn, brown suitcase at my side, containing whatever would fit from my room at Miss Eleanor’s House for Girls.
