She waved at the little girls as they crossed the street. She always stood there, leaning on the balcony's green banister, with a cigarette between her fingers waiting for them to come back from school. Sometimes they would go and spend some time with her before getting on with their homework and extracurricular activities. Sometimes they wouldn't.
