Her pale, teal green hand softly polished the tip of her rosy nose in a nervous twitch; gently she ran her hand down her leafy cheek, down her neck and placed her hand gently on the back of her shoulders. Against her warm fingers she suddenly felt the crisp, cold touch of his palm; steam seemed to precipitate off of their connection. Her bright, swimming, blue eyes glanced behind to see his figure hanging there like a branch of mistletoe. His hair was love letter white, with dollops of whipped cream curling over his forehead, as if he were ...
Hours earlier, Alice had eaten a beautifully crumbly jam tart. The base had been thick and stodgy like a sodden carpet which had draped the floor of her mouth with buttery goodness. The filling was a luscious sweet red jam that spilt over the edges, dripping like morning dew. Over the top there was a crumbly coat of sugar and butter mixed with almonds that had been crisp as the coldest winter morning but warm as crackling fire. The tart was everything Alice could have hoped for in a delectable dessert but then why did her stomach feel weird?...
The last thing she remembered was sitting on her sofa, phone in hand, texting. She had been in a fight with her boyfriend; Jason had been angry with her for missing his football match, she wanted to go but had an interview for a new job. She always wanted to work at the fashion designers and had finally got a shot, but it would have been so much easier if she had just missed the interview. She was also texting her friend Ben; he was telling her that she deserved much better than Jason, that she deserved someone like him. Ben was a good guy, ...
Deep in the murky, salty waters of the sea, under the billowing waves, beneath the scum which lays dead on the surface and the debris which floats in limbo is the cave of the siren. The mouth of the cave is an abyss, carved in the shape of a tidal wave. The flowing rock, eroded by time, curves flawlessly like the soft movement of the waves and the steps descend in the spiral shape of a wentletrap into the ebony liquid. Through the cave, the walls etched with dark crevices, burnt, in the shapes of lightning whelk, tower over in a tunnel format...
I woke up. I rolled my eyeballs forward 180 degrees from the back of my head and lifted my drooping eyelids like a stiff letterbox. It was dark, too dark. I could feel something clasping my wrists, it was so cold it felt wet against my dry skin; the weight of my body hung from the clasps, I felt pressure against my limbs as if I was being strung up. I was. Suddenly, I realised my body was mounted on a wall, as if I were a tapestry ready to be stabbed with a needle. I was loosing feeling in my hands, the cold metal which had felt wet before s...
Her butter yellow dress draped over the marble staircase and quivered in the breeze of the distant roars and growls. Her beautiful coffee eyes rippled with tears, they trickled down like drips from a shaking teacup. Her red, rosy cheeks faded into a pale ghost-like complexion, as if the roses behind her cheeks had withered away. Belle’s delicate hands grasped a gold, intricately designed mirror. Shimmering caramel vines enveloped the handle and climbed up the face of the mirror where elegant honey roses blossomed and twinkled in the dying ca...

I stared at the creases which scattered my cold, crisp palms and rubbed them together to create friction, the heat died in my hands. The beautiful evening sun set was shining upon my face, the star wept tears of golden light across the sky and the pure glow fell in droplets from the trees, scattering across my skin like sun kisses. I tried to hold the sunlight in my hands, to feel the warmth in my touch, to feel the comfort of a friend, but it was out of my grasp. All I felt was the dry skin which speckled my arms and loneliness of the dying...

The fresh autumn morning breeze swept across the flickering blades of grass and bent their spines to follow the rhythm of the natural air. The wind whispered in the hollows of the great trees of the forest as she rushed by, secrets of long forgotten times. She twirled in the empty air and grasped leaves in her fine grip and tossed them across the woodland floor. Acorns fell from the old oak as her shoulder brushed up against them, the nut tumbled down and rolled in concentric circles until halting as it ran out of energy, it lay there to res...

Trigger Warning: suicide My fingers shivered as they glided across the sharp metal surface of the chains, they felt heavy under the weight of guilt which hung so greatly on the chains I had forged. I slide them across the ground into position, I was ready now. I just needed to wait… Earlier that same day. It had been a long time coming, I knew I had to do it. It might not make others laugh, but it would be the best April fools I have ever had, I will be so thrilled come 12 o’clock this morning. I had to prepare. I thought about primar...

Deep in the murkiest, coldest, quietest part of the great forest, centred in the clearing of arched oak trees, stood a tall, dark mansion. The window pains were cracked like the polar ice caps, the walls were as dry and grey as the withered coral and the ebony black tiles which lined the roof were as sparse as trees in the deforestation zone. The darkness loomed over the house, it crept up the sides of the house and climbed the walls. The big oak doors focused the front of the mansion, large circular handles carved out of stone and hinges we...

2012: Sophie trod carefully on the aged, brittle floorboards of her late grandmother, Barbra’s cottage. Barbra was a sweet soul, she baked cakes for the neighbours and invited the shopping delivery man in for a cuppa every Saturday morning. It was an untimely death which had bestowed the family, shocking that such a pure soul could leave the earth so soon. The walls of the cottage had sunken in as if it were holding its breath. Sophie creeped up the large staircase at the end of the corridor which lead up to the master bedroom. The carpet w...

The seaweed, a leathery strap of skin, swayed softly against the vibrations of the charcoal water and the lapping waves cloaked each other as if to hide the truth. The moon’s light did not reflect off the surface of the body of water which surrounded the Siren Code Cove. The cove protruded 20 meters above the rolling waves and arched over like a shark beached on the shore. The jagged stalactites and stalagmites rimmed the edges of the great rock like the teeth of this ferocious beast which accompanied the roaring waves. The cove encircled th...

The roses were prefect. The lush petals enveloped each other like a love letter and smelt of angel kisses. I am overexaggerating that one, flowers all smell like stems to me. But anyway, they looked beautiful. I had gotten out my old dining room furniture which had been stuffed in the attic for coming on three years now, you see I don’t usually bring people home, unless they are special. Special people are hard to come by these days, you get the ones who are too clingy, the ones who prefer to look in a mirror than at you and then there’s the...

Trigger warning: stalking, murder I had to say something. It was the politest thing to do. I needed to at least give them words of kindness and sympathy. I had been thinking about them all day. What would I say? How would they react? I wanted to have it all rehearsed before it was executed. I was going into the supermarket when I first thought of an idea, I was leaning down to pick up a corkscrew when it popped into my brilliant mind. The corkscrew had a dazzling emerald encrusted on the gold top. This was a fitting gift. I would present her...
