The stars were like beacons at first, close and all-powerful. After a few seconds they retreated back to their usual size, bright against the night sky like moth holes in the canvas of a tent. ‘What are you doing here?’ I asked as the mysterious figure in the distance assumed the form of my mother. She was standing on the pavement outside my house, a hundred miles from home. I'm Catherine and I am a writer based in Chester, UK. My background is in Quality Assurance but I have always loved the written word. I have a first class degree in English Language & Communication and a Master’s degree in Creative Writing. I am also writing a novel, a candid examination of the euthanasia debate laced with tragic romance. My friends know me as Detective Inspector of the Grammar Police, my partner regards me as a stickler for accuracy and correct terminology, and I see myself as a prescriptivist perfectionist.
