He called in one of his manic states. This was not unusual, and I sat back in a comfortable chair and prepared to listen for probably the hundredth time. It was mid September and the leaves were just turning colors.This was my most favorite time of year I quess partly because that was my birthday month.It was also a time when the farm finally started giving up everything we had worked on over the summer. The garden was bursting with big juicy tomatoes and pumpkins, and a multitude of vegetables. It was a time to prepare for winter. I REMEMBER….. Sitting at the kitchen table our long sullen faces staring at the bowl of oatmeal. My older brother and sister and I were not talking, we just stared at the bowl. Oatmeal that was not as I know it now, full of enriched grain , dried fruits, honey and almond milk. No this was just plain lumpy oatmeal.
