Marking the path on map was easier than forging through the wilderness blindly. Eve was right (as per usual). Faxon didn't want to admit that though. He could hear Eve pushing the ink towards him in an unrelenting manner. The scratching of the table could be heard from the opposite side of Eve. Eiran was busy focusing on grazing letters into the already chipped wood. "Eiran, please tell me you're not scraping your name into the table. That's the best way for us to get caught. We can't let the others know we're here". Eve spoke. Eiran lifte...

Blue daisies were her favorite. Or Felicia Amelloides were her favorite. They’re the same thing; one name just sounds smarter than the other. Looking at the bright blue duct tape, it reminded Karmen of those specific flowers. Her mother used to plant them on special occasions. Usually that special occasion would be her birthday. Her mother would come into her bedroom and wake her with the best smelling chocolate waffles known to man-kind. Karmen would spot the blue daisies in the corner of the room and smile at the originality. Everything w...

A single 8’8 painting encompasses the lifetime of an artist. Every color, shape, figure, and design is a story in itself. That story really is something so beautiful. The unfortunate thing is that it’s constantly being misrepresented in the eyes of the beholder. It’s a shame that someone can simply walk by someone’s lifeline tied to a canvas and think “that reminds me of my pet dog”. It’s all obscure and vague. We tell ourselves that art is subjective and it can mean a million things to a million different people. That’s a silly excuse. Ther...

I drove in a familiar silence. I had grown accustomed to it. It was sharp yet comforting all at the same time. The silence was like an old friend that knew you better than you knew yourself. It was nothing like the obnoxious noise that hung over me everyday. I hated the noise. It is always reminding me to keep in touch with reality, to bury my thoughts, and to keep moving forward. Basically, it was a constant reminder to just move on with my life. To forget what’s been done and to leave what’s unchangeable. People keep moving only because th...
Mrs. Rickson - There was nothing better than drinking a hot cup of steamy coffee in the glowing cast of morning in your newly remodeled kitchen. Absolutely nothing could beat it. Yes, nothing could be better. Well actually, nothing could be worse if she was being completely honest. Her seventeen year old son, Rory, wasn’t home and it had been since last night since she’d seen him. It was completely normal for him to spend the night with friends and forget to tell her (usually yelling at him and grounding him would put him in his place), but ...

Loneliness has the ability to eat a person up. It has the ability to devour the mind whole and breech any sense of control and power. It is a disease. Ivy understood this. Curtains drawn and surrendered by blankets and pillows, the room seemed like a haven to her. However, the room could not shut out every distressing situation. Loneliness had made its way past her fortress and crept its way into her thoughts. She had been feeling this way since her parents found it best to move her and her brothers to a new state, new house, and new school....

It’s not my fault. It truly isn’t. New Year’s Resolutions are too difficult to accomplish. In past years I, Angelica Lector, used to kid myself into thinking I could use my gym membership or finally read those books I promised I would read or simply make an effort to be a charitable person… It’s too hard. I know, the resolutions I listed sound easy and maybe depending on the person you are, these things are second nature. However, I am not a good person. I mean, I try my best to be a good friend, daughter, and human being, but I am no saint....

As a blizzard roared and tormented the people in Beaver Creek Colorado, a cabin stood tall against the groaning wind and glassy snow and ice. Little did anyone know that the scariest storm was not the blizzard, but the one taking place behind the pine of the cabin walls. A family resided in that cabin for the week. They thought a week away in the Colorado woods would be a good way “to get away from it all”. Mistakes and harsh words were said that contributed to this voluntary mess of a vacation. With the bitter cold lurking into the cabin, t...
