Esmer gazed at the ominous approaching storm. Lightning crackled, and a breeze whispered. Nature herself sensed the suffering Esmer nurtured inside. “Papi, I miss you.” Esmer exhaled, feeling sadness over her father’s death. With his last breath, he pledged her a promise.
