There was something about genuine perkiness that diminished Louis’s comprehension by half. “Welcome to the Carnage of the Sea!” chirped the girl at the check-in counter. Her teeth were too white. Her dimples too pronounced. Her name tag read Tiffany. A distant part of him recognized that she was pretty. A more distant part recognized that he might have cared once.
