I've spent my whole adult life writing in large quantities for no one. It is a compulsion. First, there was the dream of being a journalist while I wrote commentary, poems, and song lyrics for a decade. Then there were essays for college grades and several for the old Helium.com. site. Only since 2015 have I been familiarizing myself with the craft of the actual novel, even though I've always read nonfiction. Looking for novels for the first time in the library was definitely a different experience, since all is not organized by subject as with nonfiction. I've spent more time writing than reading about how to write novels since that can involve a person so much that they never get time to actually write, and since I figured that if I just jump right in I'll eventually grow a working nose for this. Some of my kids also love writing as much as I do. Or almost. Totally proud of them. I've recently decided to stop reading about how to get published and return to the thing I loved doing in youth- entering contests. I know that this way I can get some recognition and real practice. My goal is to become a published author or ghostwriter, hopefully before another dozen greys come in. Aside from that I enjoy all the classic old lady things like gardening, cycling, and drinking good beer. Love a good philosophical conversation with people of any background. Don't do church, but love the hell out of people. The only thing I love more than people is harmony between people. I enjoy that harmony somewhere in Oklahoma, where the thunder sounds like gods in war and the lightening strikes like an electric grudge on espresso. A little scary sometimes, but makes nice live theater against beautiful cobalt skies.
