The engine rumbles to life under the soft patter of rain. Headlights illuminate a gravel driveway where the car shifts into drive. With a rushed movement, the driver adjusts her rearview mirror to reflect a worn door. She slowly moves her hands back to the wheel, but her eyes stay latched onto the peeling paint of the door. Despite her tunnel vision, she sees a shadow in the upstairs window as someone moves about. The driver’s grip on the steering wheel turns her fingers white as she tears a heavy sigh from her lungs. Before the shadow can ...

Golden light bears down harshly on my skin and as the play commences I bleed similar intensity into my act. Emotions coat my words as the script flows from my lips like a loving memory. Each new scene brings me closer to my character until the finale where I am no longer myself. My expressions are genuine, and my eyes bear no betrayal to the person I was before. When I become a figment of fiction nothing can free me besides the thunderous applause from my audience. At least what’s what I believed. That delusion snapped at the same time...

At first, it was limbo, a place in a different plane of existence fabricated only for me. I wandered through its city for what must have been years. The faces of its citizens were impassive and faded, there was only a faint outline that implied any personality. I would scream in their ears for attention, but nothing ever came of it. I would dream, wish, and even beg for the smallest hint o...

The bar filled with drunken cheers pays little mind to the moping men who hide on the dim side of the table. Most of the occupants watch the TV with fervor and thrust their glasses in the air whenever their football team scores. All their glee swirls together creating quite the scene. To them, everything else is solely background noise in their busy life, including the feeble golden glow that reaches the far side of the room. The light illuminates the lone detective slumped on the table in front of him. He never took off the heavy brown coat...

I anxiously prowl the length of the meeting room while racking my brain for a way to alter my cataclysmic future. Images of last night’s dream swirl around me viciously, shaping a future so dark I simply can’t think. The worn carpet hides no more answers than my desperate march but I can’t force myself to slow so I continue to pace. It’s becoming no less than torture waiting for Cuda and the president to arrive. Unlike most times, this vision isn’t one I can handle alone. I can see the government crumbling like a rockslide and Cuda, our...
