Hippolyta hooked up her cart to the old mule she kept just for the purpose. The poor creature was humpbacked with age, and it was missing patches of fur. The dark, damp conditions of the Hottentot Woods had not been kind to the beast.  She had purchased him off a traveler at the Crow’s Foot Inn in Hazletown. The traveler had been a shabby drunk from Whitecaps who was in need of more drink to soothe his nerves. Hippolyta had got the mule for a bargain. Alex Stubblefield is a California based author with a full-time career in agriculture. From creative writing classes in school to journaling in her spare time, Alex has been weaving with words from a young age and continues to practice her writing skills in many areas of her life. When not writing, Alex enjoys snuggling her cats, tending her garden, and cooking up fancy meals with her fiancé, Josh. While she is working on her debut novel, Las Hermanas Rodriguez, her short story ‘Darkbow: Death on Hollow Clouds,’ featured in the fantasy anthology Once Upon a Name, will be her first published piece of fiction.
