As usual,on a quiet day in early summer,Tom always liked walking on the path next to the river as it was good exercise, also it was usually fairly quiet where he went and there was lots around to see, if you knew where to look, as he did very well having been there so many times before. So after a short drive there, he was a bit surprised and disappointed to see so many cars, many of which looked quite expensive and not what he expected to see in that part of town where most people were very poor and could not afford a car of any type, ...

I nearly always just popped around the corner to Mr. Shah’s shop if I needed a small amount of something basic such as milk or eggs. This time when I got inside and after greeting Mr. Shah, I picked up a small packet of plain flour. “What is the flour for?” asked Mr.Shah. “I am baking a coconut and raisin cake this morning.”I replied. She looked vaguely familiar and I saw an unfamiliar woman standing next to me holding the local newspaper after a bit I recognised her face from school, so I said to her “Would you be by any chance Sally Davies...
Billy was in Australia for the first time on work in Melbourne to attend a conference. He had heard from a distant cousin who lived in somewhere called Geelong about a place called Arthur’s Seat not too far south of the city on the Mornington Peninsular and the wonderful views that it offered done and up the bay from Melbourne to the narrow straights at the bottom of Port Phillip Bay. So on the first weekend of his visit he decided to drive the old and slightly tired hire car up to the best area for accessing the area called Seawinds Gar...
I started working in North London just after the local authority had changed the household rubbish collection to differentiate between recyclables and non- recyclables. I was on the recyclables lorry and we took the same routes every week at the same time. Afterwards we ended up in Joleen’s café for a breakfast where as much tea as you could drink was for free and everything else was paid for.
Len always loved surfing. Since he had been a boy he had been out on the waves almost every weekend, competing where possible. When he was old enough to travel his own, he packed his board and made to Hawaii where the surf was seriously up and all of the world’s best were there starting with the Hawaiian Pro. He surprised himself by winning that one and then one other of the big three.  Back home in Australia he set himself another to surf the longest wave starting off quite a long way off the south coast of the mainland ...
Terry had never been to the Kalahari Desert before his girlfriend,Jane persuaded him that it was worth packing up the tent and overnight gear into the old Landrover for a trip out west.Usually they liked to stay in Botswana Government’s campsites, which were well located, clean and with god facilities. Unfortunately the one they wanted was full, so tried a private site and got a booking at the right time. They arrived at the site on the right day and were pointed towards a large house next to the road that looked a bit expensive to ...
When Paul was young he liked to explore the countryside with his backpack and   a picnic by getting on a bus or a train, seeing where it would take him then getting off, walking around for a bit, trying to find another way home and then going back into London. This normally involved little more than making a packed lunch, filling up his backpack, picking a bus or train at random and looking out of the window until it seemed interesting, getting off, looking to see if there was any local information which there often wasn’t and ...

Tony always liked to say that he could tell which beach south of Arthurs Seat in the Mornington Peninsular he was on by the different senses, including what he could hear, smell and feel but not see as he considered that to be cheating. One day he was challenged on national TV to test on two of them chosen blind by three celebrities. The first was very easy with the give away scent of an ocean beach, together with the feel of people enjoying themselves, which felt like surfing. “Rye Ocean Beach.” He said which was immediately confirmed.&n...
