Grace sped past the last flickering tree and raced for the tolls. Hardened snowflakes drummed against the glass—the windshield wipers couldn’t keep up. In the haze of snow she could not read the license plate on the car before her. Michael Bublé’s silky caroler’s voice interrupted a poor, pessimistic news anchor on the radio.
