I had submerged myself in the dark but translucent, salty sea in the foolish hope of finding something I had long ago poured my heart into.Β Something I had long ago destroyed and thoughtlessly flung into the insatiable jaws of the ravenous ocean.Β Something that was possibly buried beneath the seafloor, lost, forgotten, and terribly neglected. I peek out at the crowd from my concealed spot at the side of the stage, my gaze raking over the infinite sea of bobbing heads all clustered in front of the stage and far out beyond it, I realize as soon as I do this that it's a mistake because my stomach savagely twists in protest. I will be presenting my speech in front of millions of people today. It's not some laid-back event I'm attending. No. There is nothing casual about this for me, or anyone, for that matter. Faint sounds of papers rustling, the soft scrapes of pencils swiftly running across notepaper, and the quiet, constant click-clack of fingers beating down on keyboards filled my ears. All was peaceful. All was normal. Everyone was safe. Then the sound of chair legs suddenly scraping against the floor as someone hastily got up from their seat andβBOOM!
