"Jae! Over here!"
The girl turned around with a smile, seeing her friend waving ecstatically at her. She dropped the sign and ran up to the boy yelling, "Hyunie!", both of them hugging the life out of the other, "So, Jae," He said, looking around at the new area, "What do you have planned for the day?"
The girl smiled up at the taller boy and scratched her head, finally letting go, "Are you hungry? There's a bubble tea cafe a few blocks from here."
Jaehee Seo was a girl born and raised in the United States. Her mother, the sweetest woman Jaehee has ever met, was full American, while her dad, who once had the most energetic soul, was full Korean.
Jaehees mom died in a car accident a few years back. 'Frost Seo' embellished on the stone with other sweet words about her. Since her mothers death, Jaehees dad lost his energy and went to drinking. He never abused the girl or anything such, but he did neglect her some of the time. He would forget to buy food and rarely held conversations with the girl. The most she got was a "Good morning." or "You look so much like your mother", but Jaehee knew the latter was a lie. She looked more like her dad, only receiving her mothers grey eyes and small nose.
But Jaehee was growing bored, lonely. She didn't have many friends, she was too socially awkward to approach anyone. And she didn't have any siblings. So, she took it upon her self to find someone to talk to, someone she didn't have to talk face to face with, someone she could be herself around without having to worry if they cared about her looks. A penpal.
Not being particularly happy with writing and being too impatient to wait, she went online and found a penpal website, to email each other back and forth.
Sure, emailing was outdated, but writing letters was even more outdated!
She created a quick profile, setting her picture as a sunset. Jaehee always liked sunsets, they meant the day was coming to an end and she could finally have peace with the moon staring down at her.
Speaking of the moon, she labeled herself as "MoonchildSeo" and started looking around other profiles.
After a moment, she decided she wanted to get in touch with someone from her fathers district back in Korea. Kyunho Seo was born in Daegu, so Jaehee moved to the search bar, ready to type in the decided destination.
But, before she could start, a message appeared at the top of her screen.
"HyunPuppy has sent you a message"
Jaehee blinked before clicking on his profile. His picture was of a rather cute, in her opinion, small, black Pomeranian. She smiled at the picture, but was slightly disappointed she didn't know what his face looked like. His profile said he was a year older than her and a few of the things he liked. It also showed he was from none other than Daegu, South Korea. How convenient!
Jaehee tapped on the short greeting he sent and quickly typed one back.
Jaehee and the boy, whos real name was Han Daehyun, or as it'd be in America, Daehyun Han, had grown close in a little over two months. Jaehee had gotten to start calling him Hyunie or sometimes Daehyunie and in turn, he called her Jae.
The twos friendship blossomed greatly over the fact that they were both particularly interested in music, mostly the piano, and their love of food and bubble tea. They had a few other similarities as well, but they bonded over the simpler things.
They had even opted to exchanging numbers, Jaehee downloaded an app called Kakao Talk for him since that was what he usually contacted people on, and had phone calls.
Yesterday, they had finally seen each others faces due to a facetime call and Jaehee was shocked. She hadn't expected the bleached blonde hair nor the mint green tips, and she definitely didn't expect for the color mix to look so good on him. He had deep, dark brown eyes she got lost in more than once, chubby cheeks, and a sharp jawline.
He was rather attractive to her, to say the least.
They talked about their lives and their cultures, Jaehee was deeply interested in Daehyuns culture, wanting to know more about the place her dad grew up, but she found herself even more interested in his life. His father worked abroad, staying in China for a few months for his job. And his mother was a stay at home mom, but worked at a cafe on the side to make some of her own money. Daehyun was interested in becoming an idol, as he liked to rap and could sing a bit, he even performed a small bit of a song he wrote to Jaehee on facetime. He told her that he needed to learn how to dance if he wanted to get anywhere in the idol world and had to start taking lessons. His mother wasn't very fond of the idea, but let him start training on his own before he auditioned to get a better chance. Because of the new dance practices though, Daehyun and and Jaehee couldn't talk as much as she would've liked.
But Jaehee was excited today. Even though she hadn't talked to Daehyun in over seventeen hours, she was overly excited today.
She kept glancing at her phone every few seconds, a sign in her other hand, as she was slightly jostled every few minutes by the crowd.
Jaehee had prepared her outfit carefully for the day, black jeans with stylish rips, a white t-shirt she tucked in, a black flannel, white shoes, and topped it off with a black belt and a few bracelets. She dressed respectfully, not showing any skin that shouldn't be shown. Her long light brown hair was tied up into a high pony tail, letting the world see the ring sized, silver hoops in her ears.
The plane had landed a little while ago, Looking at her phone once more, only to see no new notifications. He wouldn't have lied, would he?
"Is he coming?" She frowned.
