I hugged myself, hoping in vain to stay warm as Stanley knocked on the door. As he waited, facing the door, I turned around and walked to the edge of the porch and leaned against a beam, breathing out puffs of snowy clouds. I scanned the street, looking at the rows of red brick bungalows, nearly identical to each other. All of the houses had stoops that led up to a porch.
