Venus shone with such a magnitude of purpose and light at this time of year, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was the star the three wise men followed to find Jesus. If only my poor brother had realised the truth as a child, that Venus was not a star but a planet. The number of wishes he’d placed upon her, hoping against hope to avoid one week of having to go to school hiding a fresh bruise or cigarette burn. But they were all wasted.
