A multinational company had called for submissions of applications for suitably qualified candidates to register for a hire and full time employment. Applications got through, as many found it an achievement to be enrolled as a staff of the reknown multinational cooperation.
Boscowoko inc, was a largely recognaised firm and globally reknown for its culture and cutting edge performance in the telecommunication world. They only took the best of the rest as staff, and their benefits for identifying with them was a well silivating package.
In previous instances, Boscowoko had put its candidates through rigorous interview tests and examinations that took in stage, until almost everyone was dropped as a result of failures which showed incompetence.
Every one knew what to expect this time as the application deadline began to draw nearer.
The cooperation needed only 6 candidates, but there were 22 who qualified through and passed the boards preliminary journey.
The names of the shortlisted candidates were finally posted, and they were given a date to undergo the final examination. Only those who made it through will be contacted and employed.
The examination moment finally arrived, and everyone involved were all set. Unknown to them, the management of Boscowoko had a plan. They were determined that they wold never exceed the actual number needed to hire for the job. When the prospective candidates came and were received, some of them expected to be immediately sent to a hall to face the panel of experienced interviewers answering tough questions like, "tell us about yourself!" "Do you have any previous experience on this job role?" Or what can you bring on board if hired?". Their expectations were founded with curiosity as they were cordially ushered into a WAITING ROOM.
The waiting room was although within the premises of the cooperation, but not at all inside the main building. The room was well air-conditioned and had some sofa chairs that formed a large semi circle, with a center table in the middle. The chairs were comfortable and soft enough for a person to sink inside while sitting. Beside each chair was a side stool, holding various books, journals and magazines. The center table appeared to be stacked with cookies, milk and fruit juices that were enough for every one interested. A plasma television was already hanged on the wall and turned on. The TV channel displayed Fox News.
The now prospective employees were then ushered into the waiting room. They were briefed a little, and admonished to feel comfortable and wait for a while until proper things were put in place and the interview to begin in Ernest. The instructor promised to return after a while, and left.
While in the waiting room, the twenty two candidates sitted waiting were Fifteen gentle men, and seven ladies. They all sat with dignity like some fresh deligates fro Buckinham palace. After the first thirty minutes of waiting one of the ladies got fed up and started looking for the rest room. Some others grew uncomfortable in their sitting posture and changed it, while some looked at the cookies on the table for the first time and found it appealing.
The candidates waited and waited, but no one got back to them in the next one hour. It seemed like there was a major issue that was being sorted out, or the management had simply forgotten that they had men and women some where a awaiting interview, or maybe the major interviewer was delaying to arrive.
A lot of thoughts and misgivings paraded their minds as Some candidates began to ponder on how long the proper interview will last, if it was to eventually start so late.
Moments later, some began talking aloud and asking questions. And for the first time, other candidates began engaging in gentle conversations With each other, the seemingly serious ones became less serious.
Having waited a bit longer, some candidates forgot why they were in the waiting room and started displaying their real characters. A man got up and changed the tv station, and began to abuse Fox News, some others responded and engaged in an argument with him. Some candidates were not interested in any thing other than the cookies and the fresh milk yoghurt on the table. Amongst them, two ladies brought out makeup from their bags with hand mirrors and started making-up full time. Some other folks did not really want to show themselves yet.
It happened that for another one hour, no body from the management had showed up, and the candidates looked confused and felt abandoned. Some began checking their wristwatches every now and then with silent mutterings, and almost every one looked restless.
Sitted at some places were candidates who seemed to have a strong and mature demeanor and composure. They had acted like nothing excited them inside the room. They kept themselves pre- occupied with the books and journals beside them.
They also subconsciously commanded some sense of charisma and decorum from amongst the others. Most times between the heat of arguments in that room, they would briefly air their ideas and contributions, and while they spoke, every one seemed to be silent Until they've made their point. They hardly spoke or disagreed with anyone. They also exuded the aura of maturity and good judgement in their associational behavior.
After the next thirty minutes, some tired noise makers had already sank into the chairs and were fast asleep.
It was then complete three hours when the top management and board of employers of Boscowoko inc. Stepped inside the waiting room.
They foremost thanked everyone for their practice of patience, and also for honoring their invitation. The management came holding some envelopes and handed the fat ones to sixteen candidates, and then handed the slim ones to the six. Without much to say, they turned and left.
All the candidates began opening their envelopes, when the sixteen opened their envelopes, they saw a bundle of cash amounting to five thousand dollars, attached to it was a note thanking them for their time and wishing them well in their future endeavors.
When the other six opened their slim envelope, they found no cash but a congratulatory message and an offer of employment with accruing benefits and a whooping salary of fourthly thousand dollars per month.
Everyone got surprised, and sought an explanation to this. Then one of the staffs walked in and clarified them. He pointed at the corner of the wall, and they saw a powerful H.D. Close circuit television (C.C.T.V.) camera.
He narrated that for the three hours they sat alone in the waiting room, they were being watched and observed by the management board. The management board evaluated everyone's attitude and silently took decisions on them. The staff ended with a smile and thanked all the candidates once again.
Some Candidates left very disappointed, while some left with the look of appreciation and surprise. But in all, everyone had some lesson to take home.
