A Fated Date or Destined Mate

Katie could not believe that her friend had set her up on a date, a blind date for that matter.

Katie thinks it is because she is nearing thirty and the only one in their friendship group who wasn't either married, engaged nor a parent the brunette with long curly hair and hazel eyes thought.

 Surly Katie had her own bridal business and her own place she called home but she was missing that special someone.

So here she is sitting in the fancy Italian restaurant down town waiting for this tall dark handsome 6ft4 tall man her friend Suzy told her about. With picture no or name to go by as it was a blind date.

Katie was the type who was very organised, on-time and very friendly, approachable, loved by many who never got nervous. However she could feel her knees shaking and fluttering in her chest.

She checked her phone and could not believe this man was almost thirty minutes late for their date. Katie had already drunk two Vodka and Tonics and could feel her tummy rumble as was losing patience.

Katie was starting to feel frustrated, had she been stood up? It bought back old memories of her first love Jake Spencer. They were madly in love as teens and Jake left her when they were eighteen to see the World and study abroad which Katie wasn't ready for.

Katie then decided to ring Suzy and have a little moan to her friend how she had been stood up but before she dialed Suzy she felt a tap on her shoulder.

"Good evening, I take it you are Katie?" a deep baritone voice spoke from behind her. Katie turned around slowly seeing an angel, no he was a Greek god with the curliest black hair she had seen and green eyes that reminded her of marbles.

As he sat down, she could not help but smile at how well Suzy knew her and maybe this date would not be so bad after all. "I am so sorry I am late; my car broke down but lucky my cousin was able to rescue me out of the predicament and here we are now" the man spoke with a low tone with a little blush.

"Thats ok I understand and I am Katie by the way" Katie spoke with a smile on her face. The man smiled back nodding as he opened his mouth and spoke. "Oh right, my name is Joshua, Joshua Spencer but you can call me Josh".

Katie felt a flutter in her chest when she heard that name again, was she ever over her ex she thought? Just then her thoughts were interrupted by the waiter placing menus on the table.

Katie had ordered an Avocado Pesto Linguine whilst Josh ordered a Meat Feast pizza. Katie had learnt that Jake was a photographer mainly for weddings and was actually based in Manchester and was visiting London when he met up with his old School friend Nick who set him up on this date and Nicks partner who was surprisingly Suzy.

Katie and Josh spoke about everything from work to family and friends and were shocked they had never met. The conservation finally turned to first loves.

Josh mentioned his first love was called Brittany who he met at University and they dated for five years before she left him for a younger man, he stated he would never date again until Nick suggested the date and he thought why not.

Katie then told Josh about Jake and how he left and how much she was in love with him, still loved him. Crazy she thought how deep and meaningful conversation she was having with someone she just met. They were interrupted by the waiter telling them that they were due to close at Eleven and it was already ten forty-five.

Katie felt honoured when Josh offered to pay the bill and even when she offered to pay half but Josh delt with it as she went to the ladies.

As they got their coats to leave, Josh asked how she was getting home and held the front door for Katie who walked towards the car park. Josh followed as a honk was heard and a light shone from a car.

Katie could see the figure of a tall man get out of the car and walk towards Josh. As the man approached, she could not help but notice that black curly hair and green marbles.

Josh could see the shock in both eyes as he looked back and forth like he was watching a tennis match. "Katie meet Jake my cousin and my savior" Josh spoke as he nodded to Jake.

 Jake smiled as he approached Katie who looked like she had seen a ghost. " I can’t believe it’s you, I haven't stopped thinking about you since that day, when I left" Jake spoke as Katie sat down on a bench nearby.

" I can’t believe this, what kind of fate is this?" Katie mumbled to herself in shock. Jake sat down next to Katie as Josh scratched his head and spoke. "So, Nick and Suzy set us up on dates but your ex is my cousin".

Jake nodded to his cousin as Josh rang Nick to conform that he knew this but shocked everyone one he said he didn't know they were family as Josh actually grew up in Boarding School outside London and Jake had already left for the States before he met their family.

Jake kept apologising for leaving to a reluctant Katie that later on accepted as she was getting cold and it was nearing midnight and she had a dress fitting at nine am sharp.

She exchanged numbers with Josh but just ignored Jake as she drove home.

Weeks past and soon Josh and Katie had started dating and Jake still harbored feelings for Katie but stood aside to let a new romance blossom and if Katie was happy then he was.

Katie and Josh were on their twelve date at an Ice rink the same rink that Jake asked her to be his girlfriend when they were fourteen.

Josh could sense that Katie was acting different and had a sad aura around her. Josh really cared about Katie and could feel himself falling for her but he knew in his heart of hearts that Katie loved anther.

As Josh dropped Katie home from their date he spoke. "I really care about you Katie and want what’s best for you but I don`t think I am your fated destiny". He placed a kiss on Katie`s cheek as Katie smiled and hugged the other and kissed him one last time.

A year had past and it was only a month until Suzy and Nicks wedding with Katie being head bride’s maid and the wedding planner had a lot to take on but would do anything for her best friend.

Katie had also become business partners with Josh who still photographer-ed at weddings with Suzy and Nicks soon to follow. Josh had also started dating Katie's cousin Wendy who was an opera singer who sang at events.

Jake had left again once Josh and Katie started dating but still held a flame lit for her. He did not want to leave but seeing his Katie with anther he had no choice.

With a week left to the wedding Katie needed a date and Suzy knew just the person, tall dark, handsome and just Katie's type. He told Suzy that he would meet Katie at the wedding which came round sooner than anyone would think.

The wedding went by smoothly with a beautiful Suzy in a white lace gown and Nick in a black tuxedo with his best man being his younger brother Mick and Katie in a red velvet bridesmaid dress.

As the wedding guests sat down for wedding breakfast and the families made a toast the song Lady in red started to play on the speaker as the bride and groom got up to dance.

Katie smiled and remembered how she danced to that song back when she was eighteen at the dance with Jake, her Jake, her first love, true love.

As Katie was lost in her thoughts and felt embarrassed how she had been stood up again she heard a cough behind her. Katie turned around when she felt her stomach do back flips.

"I`m sorry I was late but I am here now forever, always" the male spoke as tears streamed down Katie's face. "Can I have this dance beautiful" Jake spoke as he wiped her tears. Katie nodded as she let Jake lead her onto the dance floor.

"It’s our song Katie" Jake whispered into Katie's ear as they danced along the dance floor. Their eyes met and they kissed like their lips missed each other’s moisture. Spending all night at each other’s side, nothing could separate these too.

As the evening drew close and fireworks were set of in the garden Jake took Katie aside as he got on a knee. "Katie I can’t change the past and what has happened but I can fix our future, which all I see is you, I love you, will you be my forever?" Jake asked as tears wept up in both eyes as Katie nodded. "Yes, I will marry you forever and always my destined mate".
