Creative Nonfiction Friendship Mystery

    Pass It On

A boy was walking down an old farm road adjacent from the farm where he lived.

Upon walking down this road he happened to step on a crumpled piece of paper rolled into a ball. He picked it up and unwrinkled and found a message inside. It read Pass It On, but add a message before you do. He thought to himself self this is rather strange.Where did this come from , it's unexplained. He then thought about what message to write that would follow Pass It On? He thought maybe have a nice day, no that won't do.He thought just adding, again.  No that wouldn't do. He then thought Pass It On to a Friend. Yep, that is his message. He then thought how to Pass It On. Should I roll it into a ball and throw it? No that wouldn't do. He thought of just giving it to someone. No that didn't seem right. Then came a huge gust of wind and he thought of the perfect way to spread this message. He then formed the old crumpled paper to shape a plane. That is the perfect way to send this message. He held the newly formed plane with a secret message inside in  his hand and wisped it into the air. The wind caught the paper plane and blew it for miles  until his eye could no longer see. Now where will this plane land? Who will be the next person to  read? Will this story just come to an end or will it lead to a new friend? The plane twists and floats in the wind landing in the parking lot of the local country store .

The son of a customer sees the plane on the ground just sitting there waiting to get stepped on and crushed underfoot. He picks it up and starts running around with the plane in hand immitating it's flight, when he notices the writing inside. He opens it and it reads, Pass It On  To A Friend but add a message. The message he will add is just two words, the words are In Need. Now the message reads Pass It On To A Friend In Need. Who wrote this secret message and where did it come from? More importantly how would this message get paid forward?

The customers son thought to himself this message seems important in some way. How can I get it to the next person or town, so he fashions the plane into a sail and attaches it to a piece of bark and sets it free in the nearby stream the wind catches the sail with the secret message and help’s push it down the stream. It finally ends up at the shore line of the tributary and is found by a young girl. She picks it up and looks at the craftsmanship of the formed sail and noticed something written in the sail. It reads Pass It On To A Friend In Need but add a message to it. She then writes one word , the word Indeed. Now the message reads Pass It On To A Friend In Need Indeed

She then thinks , how can I get this message to another person? She happens to be playing with a kite that had no tail so she quickly formed the crumpled wrinkled airplane sail into a tail for the kite and starts flying it. It wisps quickly in the wind and snaps the cord allowing the kite with the hidden message to fly free. It turns and twists in the air and runs with the wind until she could no longer see. The kite lands a few miles away, with it's hidden secret message.

A woman finds the kite laying on in the ground and thinks hmm someone lost a kite. I wonder if I can get it to return to the owner? Upon inspecting this kite she notices the tail has something written in it. She quickly reads the message Pass It On To A Friend In Need Indeed (but add a message) before you do. The woman thought what she could add to the message. Indeed it would have to be worthy.

It then comes to her mind the perfect message to add it will be The Lord Sees You. Now the secret message reads Pass It On To A Friend In Need Indeed The Lord Sees You. She then forms the paper kite tail back into a paper plane with a secret message inside and whisks it in the wind. The wind has changed opposite direction and the plane carries it's message back across the jet stream and lands on an old farm by the road. An old man plucks the plane from the ground and reads it's message. Pass It On To A Friend In Need Indeed The Lord Sees You. This made the man very happy. How a message of good can travel around the world just by wind water and care. The friends he never met but have surely  been made.  Not face to face but by a message displayed. He thought to himself what a glorious day. To have sent a message in a paper ball. It travelled many places and to return here, it falls. The message was added by people of four. A very good message that seem to come from the lord. What made these people write the message they wrote? The man who started it, was it a prank or a joke?  He never expected it to return to unbroke. The crumpled ball, the plane, the sail even the lone kite with no tail, and back to a plane again, the man never expected the message to end. The man the two boys the young girl and the woman had never met. Although they made a message the man and the woman will never forget. The two boys and the young girl learned something to. What the wind and paper and thoughts can do. The man never knew these people to call them friends. Maybe he made some by the stories end. The paper shapes may have changed carried by the winds way, but the message was strong on this windy day. The Lord is Alive Pass It On

Thanks for this story. I did not expect the change in tone from a light, childhood wonder story (I had been thinking to myself that the only people who would notice a random piece of paper were the kids) to a more contemplative type of story.
