"I dare you to visit the Haunted House, the Ghoolburg Castle. If you do that, we will stop teasing you." Nick, the fattest kid in the group said simply. "So are you in or...are you a scaredy-cat?" That made me angry. I am not a chicken.
"Okay, so you want me to visit the Ghoolburg Castle? That's it? I will, and to prove it, I will take a picture with me near the Ghoolburg Castle." I exclaimed, desperate to prove myself brave, and not a scaredy-cat. I grabbed my car keys and left the boys bickering among themselves. "Me?! A scaredy-cat?! As if, just you wait boys. Like come on, it's just a castle, with a weird name. Simple...I wonder where the Ghoolburg Castle is...I should probably do some research on it." I spent the rest of the day researching about Ghoolburg Castle, and surprisingly, there wasn't very much data on it. Only the address and that it used to belong to Maria Ghoolsmith. "Huh, such a weird name." I packed my bags and a few energy bars and hit the road the next thing in the morning. Oh, excuse me, I forgot to introduce myself.
My name is Addair Pederson. I am 17 years old, and ever since I got the Mathletic Award in the nation, these boys have been teasing me for being a geek and for looking like one too. I strongly disagree with looking like a "geek". Geeks have geeky glasses, don't wear fashionable clothes (I do, I am a "geek" in fashion), or wear cool hairstyles. Well, Moi, does all of the above! So that doesn't classify me as a geek.
Going to the Ghoolburg Castle wasn’t easy. There were many obstacles I had to overcome. I had to go over boulders and a rickety bridge. One moment, I thought I was going to quit, but...then, the boys would tease me again. “No more teasing! No more teasing!” I chanted and made my way across the rickety bridge. And for the boulders? Well.... when I had to go across the rickety bridge, I obviously couldn’t use my car to get across the bridge, so I left it behind. So...I thought, why not go rock-climbing while we are at it.
It took me an hour to get to the Ghoolburg Castle after rock climbing. And when I reached the castle, you wouldn’t believe me until you visited the Castle yourself. Some signs said “DANGER”, “GHOULS IN PLACE”, “TURN AROUND AND RUN”. Those signs gave me the chilies. I decided I would hurry up and get my picture so I can go back home.
*CLICK* I took my picture but then suddenly something moved behind me, and then the next thing I know, I am knocked down to the ground. I yell “HELP! HELP!” but no one answered, well, except this eerie sound. “Doooooon’t waaaaasteee yooooourrrr breaaaaathhh.” That was the creepiest sound I ever heard in the history of creepy sounds. Then, everything went black.
I must have woken up after an hour and then suddenly a ghost appeared, RIGHT in front of me. I screamed on the top of my lungs, “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, MOMMY HELP ME. GHOST!”
“Excuse me?! I’m not a ghost! I am a GHOUL.” The ‘ghoul’ flipped her hair….but honestly, she wasn't pretty...frankly, she was ugly.
“What’s a ghoul? Is it like a girl ghost?” I asked, completely lost.
“No, a ghoul is a dead human that feeds on dead bodies.” She licked her lips as I looked in disgust. “Aaah, dead humans, YUM.”She made a dreamy face. “But live humans are even yummier.” She muttered this.
“Eww,” I thought to myself. Who eats dead bodies, well A GHOUL OF COURSE. Just then a scary thought popped into my mind. What if...she ate me? Without thinking twice, I jumped onto my feet and ran for it. But fun fact, ghouls are faster than Addair’s.
“Where do you think you are going?” The ghoul asked me. “At Least tell me your name and address so I can hau-err, I mean see you.” She corrected herself.
Don’t ask me why, but I just told a ghoul my address and name, “My name is Addair Pederson. I live at 15349, NW 10th place.” I told the ghoul and left, completely forgetting about the dare. After I was halfway home, I realized that I forgot to take a picture inside. And I realized that I JUST TOLD A HUMAN-EATING GHOUL MY ADDRESS AND NAME. I couldn’t make it back to the castle in time before midnight so I decided I would return the next day.
“Argh, such a waste of time,” I said. I turned into my driveway and to my surprise, the ghoul was there. Right there, waiting for me. I had no time to find out if she was waiting for me, I turned back and drove fast to my friend’s house. It would be the only safe option...until tomorrow.
“Susie? Are you here? Open up, please.” I banged on her door, scared to be alone in a dark place. Now because of that ghoul, I have Nyctophobia. GREAT. Susie finally opened the door and I ran inside. I explained to her all about the dare and how I had to visit Ghoolburg Castle. She had no idea what Ghoolburg castle was (like me). She wasn’t really scared about the signs as she thought I was exaggerating but when I reached the ghoul part, she screamed. Yes, she screamed, she got 10 flashlights, 20 batteries, food to last for 17 days, 6 books, and 3 blankets. She took one of the blankets and hid inside. She gestured to me to come too, I shrugged and decided to join her.
------------------------The Next Day---------------------
“Susie, I’m going to leave, ok?” I said goodbye and made my way to Ghoolburg Castle again.
“Bye! Good luck!” Susie said.
I drove to the rickety bridge and got out of my car. It was more dangerous than before. I reached the boulder and oddly, there was no boulder. I shrugged and made my way to the castle. There, the ghoul was waiting for me. It was a scary sight. She had a big knife and THEN…
“Addair? Get up, honey! It’s time for school!” My mom said. I yawned, that was a scary dream. Almost too real.
“So that’s when my mom woke me up...But I think the ghoul was going to eat me, FOR SURE.” I said, shivering.
"Addair, what an odd dream, a scary one too!" Susie said, laughing.
