"You have to tell them that she did it, you have to say that you saw her. If you say it was an accident, they will send me back to prison. I can't do life brother." My sister is pleading with me to turn in Clarice. The one woman in this entire world that makes my heart start and stop with a single wave.
"Come on Janice, any other woman on this planet and I'd have no problem. Why her?" I ask, wondering why my sister has a sudden hate.
"Geoff, she just needs to take the fall for this okay, she needs to have a reality check and quick." My sister growls and turns away from me.
I sigh, "okay, I'll do it."
"Thank you brother, please go now." She turns around and pushes me out the door.
As the door slams behind me I turn to my left, and there she is.
Clarice Jackson, my neighbour and one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen, and I'm about to ruin any chance I had at becoming her man.
"Hi Geoff," she yells at me and I know she is waving it's what she always does, but today, yeah today I ignored her and jumped in my truck heading towards the police station.
"Geoff, what are you doing?" I question why I have to bow down to everything my sister asks of me.
As I pull into the parking lot at the station, I close my eyes.
Can I do this, can I truly turn in a woman for something she has no clue what she did.
My phone rings and I look at my sister's name flashes across my screen.
I leave the phone in my car and head inside.
"Hearth Police Department, how can we assist you?" The older lady behind the desk asks and snaps her gum at me.
"I have details on the 501 park shooting that happened last weekend." I mumble.
"Detective Dora, will assist you, please have a seat in the waiting area." She points her boney finger to the side and I turn to look.
Couches that have seen better days line a wall, a coffee table that looks like one heavy boot on top would leave it crumbled on the floor.
I head over and hope that Detective Dora won't take too long.
I have been sitting here for 2 hours, an offer of a bottle of water is the only contact I've had from the officers.
"Sorry for the long wait, you say you have details on the 501 shooting?" I nod my head and stand following behind the woman who leads me to a room labelled interrogation.
She points to a seat on the other side of a metal table, before she presses a button and slams her notebook on the top.
"This is Detective Dora Jackson, badge number 896756. We are in interrogation room 3 as the anonymous person tells us details of what happened on Saturday July 23rd, at the 501 park, where an officer was involved in a shooting." She motions for me to tell her what happened that day.
"On Saturday I was out for my morning jog when I heard the sounds of gunshots. As I ducked behind a parked car I heard voices screaming to get down and get on the floor. Then I heard a scream and I peeked over the hood of the car and saw." I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
"I saw a woman holding a gun at an officer, and screaming for him to put his gun away. The woman was saying that she was tired of not having protection." I can't do this, I can't tell this detective that it was Clarice, when I know for a fact that it was my sister Janice, and that she wasn't yelling for protection she was yelling because she broke the conditions of her parole.
"Go on, do you know who the woman was?" The detective asks me.
I slowly nod my head as I raise my eyes to hers.
"I-I do, it-it was," I pause. I can't, I can't ruin my chances with Clarice, when Janice will continue to harm people.
"Listen, I was sent here by my sister, a known felon, to try and pin the shooting on an innocent woman." Detective Dora's eyes widen before she schools her features and asks "may I ask who you were supposed to pin this on?" Her voice cracks at the end.
"Clarice Jackson, my neighbour." I say her name and my heart starts to pound in my chest.
"Do you know who the female assailant was?" She asks me.
"I-I," the sigh that leaves my mouth means I know that my sister is going back to prison, and there is not one thing I can do to stop it.
Clearing my throat and sitting up a little straighter, "Janice Sandobal, my sister. She is currently staying at my residence," I deflate when the detective jumps from her seat and heads for the door.
"Just so you know, and completely off the record. Thank you for not pinning it on Clarice and for telling the truth. My little sister deserves a chance at survival after what your sister did to her 4 years ago." With that she throws open the door and leaves me sitting there in stunned silence.
It all makes perfect sense now, the reason why Janice wanted me to frame Clarice was because 4 years ago Janice tried to kill her in a hit and run.
The reason why, because Clarice had a conversation with Janice's boyfriend at the time, a conversation that took place in Clarice's place of business, the jewellery store.
I jump up out of my chair and leave the room as quickly as I can, I know why Janice sent me here.
She plans on finishing what she started, and there is no way I am going to allow her to hurt that woman anymore.
