Sad Suspense Holiday

Beep, beep, beep. Like every other day, Laylah was late to work. She looks at her alarm and sees she is an hour late. “Oh no” yells Laylah in disappointment, No time to make breakfast or get ready, she threw on black wrinkly pants, a stained white shirt and put her hair up in a messy bun.As she put on her mismatched high heels she ran outside and ran into her cab on this rainy day in the city of Los Angeles. Laylah looked awful, she smelled like a sweaty dog,her hair looked like a bird's nest, and she looked like she had just woken up, cause she did. “LATE AGAIN” mr.Kyle said as Laylah ran into the car soaking wet from the pouring rain.”Sure is a ugly day out” said mr.Kyle.Laylah wasn't even paying attention to him, she was to busy trying to do her makeup. The car made a huge break and all her lipstick smeared. “Hahah” mr.Kyle laughed. “Well good luck with that” laughed mr.Kyle as he dropped off Laylah. Laylah had never been this late, and she was grumpy and reeked since she didn't have time to brush her teeth or shower. “what if i get fired, they are going to think i'm irresponsible.” Laylah thought as she was in the elevator. She walked into the office where she worked and yelled "sorry I'm late!" Laylah waited for the usual "it's ok" but it was silent. "Hello?" "Anyone here?" Laylah heard nothing except for the rain tapping on her window. :”Mmm was is that amazing smell” laylah said almost drooling. She walked to turn on the lights. "SURPRISE!" everyone shouted as they came out from behind their desks. Laylah had completely forgotten it was her 25th birthday.Laylah jumped. “How could i forget?” Laylah said. They had bought all her favorite treats and there was a whole table filled with gifts. “What happened to you?” said Nancy, her best friend. “Rough morning.” said Laylah.

Laylah spent the day celebrating with all her friends at work. “Thank you guys for all of this.” said Laylah smiling. “Well I think it's time we clean up this mess” Nancy said. They all started cleaning up and Laylah and Nancy gathered all the trash and were heading to the basement to throw it out. “So were you surprised?” said Nancy jumping up and down.”VERY!” said Laylah. They were outside the basement and they totally forgot they needed to scan their work card in order to open the basement door. “I'll run up really quick to get mine.” Nancy offered. “Ok” said Laylah. “Be back in 10” yelled Nancy. 6 minutes later a man from another office offered to open the door for Laylah. ``It's okay, my friend went to get her card.” said Laylah. “No worries” said the man, “I needed to throw something out too so it's no problem.” “Thank you.” said Laylah. They both started to throw away their trash. “Well I'm done here, but ill put a block at the door so it doesnt shut.” said the man. :”Thank you again!” said Laylah. There was a huge slam at the door, the door had shut. “Oh no” yelled Laylah. Laylah didn't panic because she knew Nancy was coming. All of a sudden everything started shaking, everything was falling from shelves and Laylah knew there was an earthquake. “Help!” yelled Laylah. It was pitch black. The power had run out. “No no no, this can't be happening!” yelled Laylah. The whole building was pitch black. Nancy was in the elevator and it got stuck. “Help!” yelled Nancy. She was trapped inside the elevator on the 3rd floor. Everyone was in the dark. :”I left my phone in the office.” said Laylah. About 6 minutes later, the earthquake stopped. Everything was still pitch black. No sound or noises to be heard. The basement was freezing. Laylah was scared, she was still hoping Nancy was on her way to open the door. Nancy meanwhile, was still stuck in the elevator. Pitch black. “Help” Nancy yelled repeatedly. Everyone in the office assumed both Nancy and Laylah had left home to their families, so everyone tried to go home. The doors were automatic. This meant they needed electricity. Their only light source were birthday candles that were left over. Everyone's phones were dead and there was no way to charge them.3 hours had passed and there was no way anyone was getting out anytime soon. They were the only people left in the building. Everyone spread out to look for any source of electricity or light they could find. Both Nancy and Laylah were still all alone. “Someone get me out!” yelled Laylah.  A teardrop streamed down Laylah’s face. “I’m never going to be found.” “What if I die in here.” All these negative, but possible thoughts, flooded Laylah’s mind. Nancy was banging on the elevator door for almost 30 minutes and no one seemed to hear a thing. Everything in the basement started falling again, “what is happening” said Laylah. “AFTER STRIKE” yelled one of the guys from Laylah’s office. They all ran up to the highest floor. All of a sudden Nancy hears glass shattering and everyone screaming of horror. Little by little water filled her elevator. “HE-” Laylah was already drowning with no way out. The basement door was made of metal and there were no windows.Nancy started panicking. “SOMEONE GET ME OUT!” she yelled. The building was made from glass and water poured through and shattered the windows. This tsunami was big. Luckily it didn't reach the 40th floor which was Laylah’s office. Both Nancy and Laylah were running out of air. As they both got their last breath of air they yelled as loud as they could. ‘Nancy!” yelled one of the guys. Two guys ran to go find her. They luckily managed to get her out of the elevator. She was gasping for air. They were all safe, except for Laylah. As Laylah got her last moment she said “happy birthday to me.”
