New house, new life. Isn’t it romantic? I wish. Jordan choose the new house for us so we can live further away from our parents. It’s kind of sad that I won’t see them as often as usually but it is true that they were a little bit annoying all this time. We lived in a house almost next to my parents’ house and they came over almost every day to check if everything is alright. 'Do you have enough food, is the house clean, let me help with the dishes’ that’s what my mom said all the time. Jordan was so excited about this new house I can’t wait to see it in real life. It’s not like I had a lot of a choice where we will life because he is the only one employed here. Almost there, just a couple more minutes and I’ll see the new house. We are so lucky we could find house right now, after the second world war it’s so difficult to find a good house that isn’t overpriced. We are here. I stepped outside the car, while Jordan takes our suitcases. We went to the front door and the house seems pretty on the outside. Dead flowers by the front garden I guess nobody lived here in a while. Lovely white fence looks just like an American dream house. The paint has peeled off but it isn’t tragic we can do it over. We finally step inside, Jordan opens the door and I can hear this ugly sound the door is making. I look around and I can’t believe my own eyes. This place is terrible! What was Jordan thinking in the first place? The dinning room and the kitchen are totally black and covered in ash.
“Jordan what happened to this place?” I asked.
“Calm down Lucy, there was a fire in this place, why do you think it was so cheap? And by the way when we clean this place out it will be amazing, i love it already. Why don't you start tommorow by plucking out these dead flowers?” he answered.
It was a disaster it will take month to clean it all off and make it look good. With a hard ponding in my chest and went upstairs to look at our bedroom. I was expecting the worse. The stairs also made this ugly noise just like the front door. I waked upstairs and went to the bedroom. I opened the door and just as I expected the floor is totally black. I tried my best not to start crying. How could I not if the whole house is burned and looks so old like it can collapse any second. But all of the sudden I heard a noise. That weird noise like something little was running. Oh no don’t tell there are also mouses here. I can’t believe that now we need to live here. Before we actually can live here we need to restore the whole kitchen and dinning room and the floor in our bedroom, repaint all the walls and seed new flowers in the garden. Besides I haven’t looked yet at the bathroom. I think it’s enough for today. My conclusion is: I hate this place! The next morning I woke up thinking it was just a nightmare but unfortunately it wasn’t. I went to kitchen thinking I can’t even walk here at night because I will literally not see anything. I stared at this place with hate in my eyes and suddenly I heard the noise, just like yesterday. Oh I’m going to find this little nasty beasts. I searched throughout the house and couldn’t find anything. These beasts know how to hide. I opened a sideboard unexpectedly something jumps out of it, scratches my face and runs away. This wasn’t just a mouse it is something bigger. it scared me so much I fell and crawled back. I hear my heart pounding as if it will jump out any second. I breath heavily trying to understand what just happened but I can’t. Jordan comes in and asks me what am I on the ground and not doing the breakfast.
“I.. I just saw… something”
“What? What the hell could you possibly see here just go to the kitchen already.”
“Jordan that something scratched my face can’t you see it!”
“Oh my Lucy, you just fell and scratched on the piece of wood, they are everywhere can’t you see it?”
I didn’t answer anything because he obviously wouldn’t believe me. And he was right, there were pieces of wood everywhere. Maybe I’m just imagining things, the last couple of days were pretty stressful. After breakfast I went to the garden to see what I could do. All flowers are dead I don’t know how but the grass is still pretty green. Pots were are all broken and the dirt flow from it. I started plucking out dead flowers. The roots were deep in the ground yet I somehow managed to pluck them out. After two hours of working you could only see the green grass. It’s a good start. I went back inside and saw how Jordan was getting ready for work.
“I’ll be back in the evening honey, I hope you won’t forget to make the dinner,” he said.
“Of course not honey, bye!”
“Bye!
He ran out of the door and now I’m all alone in this goddamn house. I wonder when he will call someone so they repair the floors and basically everything that’s burned. New house sucked, I have no friends here, no family, I don’t know the streets and besides all of that this house creeps me out. I went to the kitchen to try and clean it because I can’t cook with a kitchen like that every day. Nothing helped. It looked like it was all just painted black and nothing I could do about it. I went back to the garden to think about what kind of flowers fits the best. Open the door and my heart stops for a second. How can it be? How is this even possible? Is this some kind of a joke? The dead flowers that I just plucked out this morning are all of the sudden back as if I never touched them. I try to normalize my breathing. It gets harder and harder. I’m getting sweaty I can’t say anything. I just look at the garden in shock not understanding what happened. I need to tell Jordan that it’s something very wrong with this house and we need to move out. I stayed in the bedroom till afternoon afraid to go outside the room. Then Jordan finally came home and started yelling.
“Why the hell haven’t you made the dinner? I’m working all day so I can pay for this house for us and that’s how you repay me? Can’t even do one little thing I ask?”
I couldn’t hold my tear back: “Jordan, please, calm down let me explain to you.”
“Oh you better do.”
“This house is hunted I swear! I plucked all the flowers out today and now they’re back again, and I hear something here all the time. I don’t what it is but it did scratch me and the piece of wood didn’t, believe me!”
“What are you talking about you never plucked them I saw them when I went to work. Stop with your little excuses and tell me the real reason.”
“I’m.. I’m telling you the real reason, please. I don’t like this house, I want to move back to our old house! Please Jordan listen to me!”
“YOU ungrateful bitch! I paid for this house a lot of money and I’m not going to listen to you sick tales about this house. You are not moving out, you’re staying right here with me until I decide we move out!”
“No, I’m not staying here! And you can’t make me! I’m going back to my parents house and you can live here alone as long as you want to,” I sobbed.
“We will see about that you little brat.”
His vein popped up on his forehead, he was so furious. He raised his hand, it’s coming closer, closer and closer. Ah. What? I looked at him, screaming all of the sudden. Something was eating him from inside. His screams, his cry for help but all I could do is stand there and watch. The beast that’s eating him it looked just like the one who jumped out of sideboard. It was all black, looking similar to a cat but it didn’t have eyes or nose or ears. Only a mouth with which it ate Jordan. I didn’t cry this time, I just watched. And in the moment the only thing left from Jordan were his bones. I couldn’t believe it. The beast disappeared as fast as it came. I stared at this picture for ten minutes trying to understand what just happened. Suddenly the black floor in the bedroom started to disappear like it was some kind of fluid and flowed down. This house can’t be any crazier. When I went downstairs the black kitchen and dinner room suddenly were normal. I couldn’t trace not a drop of black nowhere. The walls were just like new painted and even in my favourite colour. Outside the flowers were blooming in al kind of colours. The house that first was burned and damaged became the real American dream house after all.
I think,
I think I found my place to rest.
