"It's five am in the morning. I slept for like three hours. Being an adult is hard." She thought while brushing her teeth.
She washed her face and changed from her night gown to shirt and a pair of shorts. She fixed her hair as she looked to the mirror to see if she looks like a person and not a mess. She made herself some coffee as she patiently waits for someone.
After seeing the person she was wating for she stood up and went outside. Her face still looking like a child that didnt get a candy.
"Why did the mailman arrive so early?" Sheyn mumbled as she walked towards the mail box. A message arrived saying that a mail will arrive and that it is urgent.
"Why is there a letter here? Where's the box of pocky I bought online?" She asked no one in particular as she stare at the blue letter in front of her.
"To Sheyn Canavin." she read out loud.
Who's it from? Mom? She thought and opened the letter. Her heart stopped just like everything that surrounds her. She felt on both her knees as she held her sobs from escaping. Thoughts filled her head as tears streamed like waterfalls down her cheeks.
"H-how is it p-possible? H-he said h-he'll be back... He... He.... He promised me that we'll get married when he returned." she cried as she hugged the letter close to her heart.
Finally making a decision she quickly wiped her tears away and went back inside to grab her keys. Keeping the letter in her pocket she closed her door and walked towards her car.
Driving rather fastly the girl continued to drive towards his lover's house. Heart filled with sadness and longing ness she continuously wiped her tears.
"Y-you said you'll never break your promise. T-then explain this! H-how c-could you leave me like this? How!" she screamed and screamed while hitting the wheel as her voice continued to crack and only sobs were heard.
Regarding the tears that blurred her eyes and her occupied mind she managed to arrive at her destination in one piece. After parking her car she stepped outside looking like a zombie and knocked on their door.
A woman around the age of forty-nine opened the door eyes red from crying welcomed her.
"Mom... Is it true?" She asked not stepping inside the mansion.
"Oh h-honey, h-how i wish this wasn't real." She answered and started to cry once more.
Her husband arrived behind her and comforted his wife. Being the only male figure he remained himself from crying to show his wife that she can relay on him.
"Dad..." The young woman called out.
Upon hearing her voice he looked up to see his future daughter-in-law looking like a crying mess. Eyes were bright red, hair was a mess, tear-stained cheeks are visible.
"Dad... He's gone." She mumbled and began to cry once more.
He couldn't hold it anymore. His façade broke as he fell on his knees to and cried.
"My son! If only I knew this would happen I should have never allowed him to go. He was my only son! I should give my time to him, I should have made him my priority and not work. Now... now my son is gone and I couldn't even t-tell him... That....that I am the luckiest dad because he became my son. I couldn't tell him how proud I am. How much i love him." He cried.
The three began to helplessly cry and beg that this is not real that the man who is now gone is just out there, alive.
She began to think of their memories together from the time they first met to the time he asked her to be his girlfriend, the fights they had, the sweet chat they would share, their call that would last till three am everything. Her breathing quickens and as if air couldn't enter her body.
And then she woke up.
She looked around seeing that she is in her room. She stood up and looked outside the window to see that it's night-time.
"You should be sleeping." A voice from behind spoke.
She turned around to see her husband with messy hair and tired eyes.
"I could say the same to you." She answered smiling sweetly and almost forgetting the nightmare she had.
"Well Cyle said there's a monster under his bed and needed me to check." He groaned and went towards the bed. "I have a meeting at 8 am tomorrow honey is it okay if I sleep first?" He asked. The girl just nodded and walked to their closet.
She took out a box and went to their garden. The cold night breeze welcomed her as she sat down their garden's chair.
She opened the box the show a letter that she received six years ago.
Once more she read it again as tears fall from her eyes.
"It's been years but I can still feel the pain when you left." She whispered.
She looked above to see the stars shining so beautifully.
"Your son is turning six tomorrow, time sure flies so fast hmm? And I'm already married for four years. It's so hard walking down the aisle knowing that you're not the one I'll see but I'm very lucky to meet my husband. His sweet and caring a bit protective but he loves Cyle like his own son. Your parents are also doing fine, it's hard and took them quite a while to finally accept that you're... you're g-gone. We're... we're h-happy... So you don't need to w-worry up their i-in h-heaven." she spoke looking above the beautiful night sky.
"Thank you for protecting me, your family, your team thank you for protecting the country. It's sad that after the battle the only one who returned was your farewell letter and not you."
"I'll forever love you my soldier." She smiled and hugged the letter close to her heart as the moon shined brightly at her.
