High School Suspense Teens & Young Adult

Hunter Brute was a vampire. It wasn't like he hid it from people, but he didn't exactly tell them either. Those that did know normally didn't live to tell the tale, and that's how he liked it. His father, a pure-blood leader of the Blood Rose Clan, had decided to expand his territory into the suburban neighborhoods.

Which meant Hunter had to attend school like a normal teenager would, except the fact that he wasn't a normal teenager. "Hunter, try to fit in as best as you can. We don't want them questioning us any more than they already do," his father said.

Hunter sighed and walked to the door. "So how am I supposed to feed? You haven't exactly explained how me, a vampire, can fit in with a bunch of.. living blood bags," he paused, licking his fangs at the thought.

"Blood tablets. Take them every hour," his father said, throwing him a container full of the pink tablets. He caught it, opening it and staring down at them in disgust. "Blood tablets? Aren't these for like.. children? Why can't I just have a thermos of blood?"

His father shook his head. "Try explaining to the teachers why you have a thermos full of blood. You're going to be late. Take the blood tablets, or don't. I don't care," he says, turning to walk away.

"Fine. Whatever. I'll take the stupid tablets. See you later I guess," Hunter says, opening the door and walking out.

He knew it was cold outside for the humans, but the cold didn't bother him one bit. It felt nice. He hurried to the school that was just down the road, having to slow down when he spotted the humans.

He smiled. Little did they know a predator was among them, and they were his prey. Hunter. That's what I am. That's who I am.

He then sighed and plopped a tablet in his mouth, closing his eyes as he was overflown with the sweet scent of their blood. He felt himself stop and opened his eyes to see a kid on the floor looking up at him. "Hey, what's your problem? Look where you're going next time," the kid said, glaring at Hunter as he got up from off the floor.

"Maybe you should just get out of my way," Hunter said, rolling his eyes. Students stopped to watch the commotion. "What did you say? Oh, you're going to regret ever bumping into me," the kid said, charging at Hunter.

A right hook. Hunter grabbed his arm and twisted it behind the kid's back, turning the kid around. "Huh. I was hoping for an easy fight, but this is just embarrassing. You'll get me next time. Maybe," he said, releasing the kid and pushing him forward.

The kid stumbled forward, trying to regain his balance. Then he turned around, swinging blindly. His fist connected with Hunter's face, but it didn't affect Hunter at all. He just blinked, and a look of pain crossed the kid's face.

The kid shook his hand out, looking hurt and confused. He swung again. Still no reaction from Hunter. Hunter rolled his eyes, starting to get bored. "Are you done yet? Okay, good. My turn," he said, his eyes glowing.

He punched the kid, sending him flying in the air and crashing into the side of the building. Gasps came from the crowd and they backed away in fright. "Anyone else want to play?" He asks, cracking his knuckles.

He normally wasn't a violent kid, but he couldn't stand bullies. No one dared to move. That's right, my prey. I'm the hunter.

He walked past them all to the front door, not looking back once. He could hear their whispers, their fast heartbeats, and could feel their eyes on him. But it didn’t bother him. Nothing really did.

He walked past the office and into his first class, right as the bell rang. He sat down on a desk, the teacher giving him a warm smile, a smile he would never return. Hunter never smiled. What was the point? What was there to be happy about? Exactly. For a vampire, you couldn't even be happy that you were alive.

His tongue flicked his fangs and he wanted nothing more than to sink them into one of the students here. The class filled up fast, surprising him. They cast worried glances toward him, sitting the furthest away from him. He liked it that way, though.

The humans weren’t in his way now. He took out his notebook, writing down his feelings in poetic form. He wrote stories, poems, anything to get his mind off of everything around him. It was just how he coped, how he dealt with his problems.

“Mr. Brute, would you like to come up here and introduce yourself?” The teacher asked, smiling. He looked up from his notebook, meeting her eyes. He gave her what he thought looked like a smile and tilted his head. “No ma’am. I’d like to stay where I’m at,” he said slowly, his eyes not leaving hers.

She blinked, her smile fading a little, then returning as she turned away. “Okay class, today we’re going to..” He drowned her out, returning to his notebook.

If he wanted to he could pass highschool by doing nothing but writing in his journal; the human mind was easy to manipulate. But sadly someone would notice, and his father said to not stick out.

He’d take the worksheet the teacher passed out and quickly finish it, turning it in at her desk. “Good job. You’re the first one done.” she’d praise him. “So can I leave now?” He asked, bored.

“Well, we only have ten minutes left of class. Can’t you wait?” She asks, pushing her glasses up to the bridge of her nose. “It’s my first day of school, mrs. I’d really like to get a head start, so I’m not late to class next hour,” he lies.

She sighs, leaning back in her chair. “Okay, Hunter. You can go,” she says, looking down at the paper and marking it with a red pin. At the top in red was the numbers 1-0-0. This class was too easy. He turned around and walked out of the class, not looking back or caring to say ‘thank you’.

Maybe I should just skip. What do I have next hour? I think science. He walked out of the building and slumped against the wall. Maybe he wouldn’t skip. Was it always this lonely?

A sigh escaped his lips and he tilted his head back, closing his eyes and letting the sun warm him. Then a smell hit him and he wrinkled his nose.

The smell of wet dog. He opened his eyes and a figure stood over him. “Hello, little pure-blood. How’s the suburban life treating you?” The figure purred out, and he instinctively stiffened up.

“What do you want, pet?” Hunter spat out. “I’m just here to talk, no need for the names. I saw what you did this morning. Maybe you don’t know the rules, so I’ll tell you them myself. This town is the Willow Pack’s land. Vampires like you don’t belong here. I don’t know what you’re planning, but forget it. It’s not going to work,” the figure leaned closer, a finger pointed toward Hunter’s chest.

Hunter narrowed his eyes. “Last I checked this land belongs to rouges, dogs like you who we can easily chase out.”

That made the figure mad, for he stepped closer to Hunter, pinning him against the wall. “Rouges? Is that what you think we are? Well, little vampire, times have changed. The rogues you speak of are now a part of the Willow Pack. Got a problem with that?” He hissed.

Hunter pushed him away, flashing his fangs toward the werewolf. “Yes, I do have a problem with that. Now I have to get pest control out here to get rid of this little.. Infestation of werewolves,” he says.

The werewolf growls at him. “If anyone’s leaving, it would be your little blood-sucking buddies. I’m just here to warn you. The next time you go out and try to be the boss around here.. I’ll have to put you in your rightful place,” he says, snapping his teeth toward Hunter.

Hunter only rolled his eyes, brushing past the werewolf. “Yeah, we’ll see about that.”

He walked back inside as the bell rang, heading toward the science room. As he walked in he heard a -thump- and looked down to see a girl looking up at him. Her face turned red and she took a large step back.

“S-Sorry. I didn’t mean to walk into you like that..” She whispered, looking down at the floor. He glanced around, noticing that no one else was in the class. “Oh,” was all he could say.

She looked up at him and smiled. “Are you new here?” He blinked, wondering how she didn’t know about him already. It seemed that the fight this morning had reached ears that didn’t even go to school here. “Um, yes. I’m what they call ‘the new kid’, and my name’s Hunter.”

He then shook his head. Why am I telling her my name? She shouldn’t know anything about me. No one should know anything about me. “My name’s Ella. It’s nice to meet you, Hunter,” she says sweetly.

He tilted his head. She wouldn’t be saying that if she knew what I really was. “Yeah, I guess so. Nice to meet you, too,” he mumbled. She smiled and sat down at the nearest table. I followed her lead and sat down on the stool next to her.

I clenched my jaw, trying to hide my prolonging fangs. I then turned away from her, fumbling through my bag in search of the blood tablets. I finally found them and shoved a couple in my mouth, relaxing as they buzzed and fizzled in my mouth.

“What was that?” She asked, peeking over his shoulder to look at the container full of the tablets. He then stiffened and shoved them into his pocket. “Nothing,” he quickly said. She raised a brow but didn’t press any more questions.

Still no one came into the class. They looked at each other, confused. “Where is everyone?” She asked, standing up and walking over to the classroom door. I shrugged, following her and looking into the hallway.

I listened in, hearing nothing, not even a heart beat. I pushed her aside and walked out of the room, heading down the hallway and listening.. Listening for any sign of life.

What happened? Where did they go?

Shuffling in a classroom caught my attention and I stopped in front of the door, my hand out to turn the knob. It swung open before I even had the chance. I took a step back, taking in what was now standing in front of me.

His dark eyes bore into mine, skin dangling from his neck from the claw markings running down it. Blood poured down from his neck to his chest, his white shirt now a pink-ish red. His lips were blue, and he stumbled forward into me. “Help.. Me,” he whispered.

A scream pierced through the silent halls and I winced. “What happened to him?” The girl asked, standing at the end of the hallway. The guy let out a shaky breath before falling to the floor. Hunter stepped over him, walking into the classroom. “Let’s find out..”

He made eye contact with a person holding up a student, one he knew would be here but didn’t care to introduce himself to. A fellow student vampire. The werewolf smirked and tore into the kid’s throat, blood running down his arm. The kid groaned, eyes half closed.

“That’s no way to kill a vampire. He’ll only heal and return back,” Hunter said, crossing his arms as he watched the kid get thrown across the room.

“Oh, I know. But he still feels pain. Torturing is more fun than killing. You of all people should know that,” the wolf says, licking his bloody lips.

Hunter clenched his fists. “This will not go undocumented. My father, lord of the pure-blood Blood Rose Clan, will surely hear of this. You know what that means for vampires and rouges?”

The wolf smiled, shoving past Hunter and stopping just in the door frame enough to say, “It means war.”
