Mysterious private detective THE GRIFFIN A.K.A JULIA GRIFFIN is arguing with bold lawyer DREW WALTERS. JULIA tries to hug DREW but he shakes her off.

JULIA

Please Drew, don't leave me.

DREW

I'm sorry Julia, but I'm looking for somebody a bit more brave. Somebody who faces her fears head on, instead of running away.

JULIA

I am such a person!

DREW frowns.

DREW

I'm sorry, Julia. I just don't feel excited by this relationship anymore.

DREW leaves.

JULIA sits down, looking defeated.

Moments later, loving librarian THE RAVEN A.K.A SOPHIA BISHOP barges in looking flustered.

JULIA

Goodness, Sophia! Is everything okay?

SOPHIA

I'm afraid not.

JULIA

SOPHIA

It's ... a mysticon ... I saw an evil mysticon eat a bunch of children!

JULIA

SOPHIA

JULIA

SOPHIA

I agree, but I wouldn't know where to start.

JULIA

SOPHIA fans herself and begins to wheeze.

JULIA

Focus Sophia, focus! Where did it happen?

SOPHIA

JULIA springs up and begins to run.

EXT. A ROAD - CONTINUOUS

JULIA rushes along the street, followed by SOPHIA. They take a short cut through some back gardens, jumping fences along the way.

INT. A BOOK SHOP - SHORTLY AFTER

REESE GROIN a ruthless mysticon terrorises two children.

JULIA, closely followed by SOPHIA, rushes towards REESE, but suddenly stops in her tracks.

SOPHIA

What is is? What's the matter?

JULIA

That's not just any old mysticon, that's Reese Groin!

SOPHIA

Who's Reese Groin?

JULIA

Who's Reese Groin? Who's Reese Groin?Only the most ruthless mysticon in the universe!

SOPHIA

Blinkin' knickers, Julia! We're going to need some help if we're going to stop the most ruthless mysticon in the universe!

JULIA

You can say that again.

SOPHIA

JULIA

I'm going to need spears, lots of spears.

Reese turns and sees Julia and Sophia. He grins an evil grin.

REESE

Julia Griffin, we meet again.

SOPHIA

You've met?

JULIA

Yes. It was a long, long time ago...

EXT. A PARK - BACK IN TIME

A young JULIA is sitting in a park listening to some classic music, when suddenly a dark shadow casts over her.

She looks up and sees REESE. She takes off her headphones.

REESE

Would you like some candy?

JULIA's eyes light up, but then he studies REESE more closely, and looks uneasy.

JULIA

I don't know, you look kind of ruthless.

REESE

Me? No. I'm not ruthless. I'm the least ruthless mysticon in the world.

JULIA

Wait, you're a mysticon?

JULIA runs away, screaming.

INT. A BOOK SHOP - PRESENT DAY

REESE

You were a coward then, and you are a coward now.

SOPHIA

(To JULIA) You ran away?

JULIA

(To SOPHIA) I was a young child. What was I supposed to do?

JULIA turns to REESE.

JULIA

I may have run away from you then, but I won't run away this time!

JULIA runs away.

She turns back and shouts.

JULIA

I mean, I am running away, but I'll be back - with spears.

REESE

I'm not scared of you.

JULIA

You should be.

INT. A GREASY DINER - LATER THAT DAY

JULIA and SOPHIA walk around searching for something.

JULIA

I feel sure I left my spears somewhere around here.

SOPHIA

Are you sure? It does seem like an odd place to keep deadly spears.

JULIA

You know nothing Sophia Bishop.

SOPHIA

We've been searching for ages. I really don't think they're here.

Suddenly, REESE appears, holding a pair of spears.

REESE

Looking for something?

SOPHIA

Crikey, Julia, he's got your spears.

JULIA

Tell me something I don't already know!

SOPHIA

The earth's circumference at the equator is about 40,075 km.

JULIA

I know that already!

SOPHIA

I'm afraid of the dark.

REESE

(appalled) Dude!

While REESE is looking at SOPHIA with disgust, JULIA lunges forward and grabs her deadly spears. He wields them, triumphantly.

JULIA

Prepare to die, you ruthless cabbage!

REESE

No please! All I did was eat a bunch of children!

DREW enters, unseen by any of the others.

JULIA

I cannot tolerate that kind of behaviour! Those children were defenceless! Well now they have a defender - and that's me! Julia Griffin defender of innocent children.

REESE

Don't hurt me! Please!

JULIA

Give me one good reason why I shouldn't use these spears on you right away!

REESE

Because Julia, I am your father.

JULIA looks stunned for a few moments, but then collects herself.

JULIA

No you're not!

REESE

Ah well, it had to be worth a try.

REESE tries to grab the spears but JULIA dodges out of the way.

JULIA

Who's the daddy now? Huh? Huh?

Unexpectedly, REESE slumps to the ground.

SOPHIA

Did he just faint?

JULIA

I think so. Well that's disappointing. I was rather hoping for a more dramatic conclusion, involving my deadly spears.

JULIA crouches over REESE's body.

SOPHIA

Be careful, Julia. It could be a trick.

JULIA

No, it's not a trick. It appears that... It would seem... Reese Groin is dead!

JULIA

What?

JULIA

Yes, it appears that I scared him to death.

SOPHIA claps her hands.

SOPHIA

So your spears did save the day, after all.

DREW steps forward.

DREW

Is it true? Did you kill the ruthless mysticon?

JULIA

Drew how long have you been...?

DREW puts his arm around JULIA.

DREW

Long enough.

JULIA

Then you saw it for yourself. I killed Reese Groin.

DREW

Then the children are safe?

JULIA

It does seem that way!

A crowd of vulnerable children enter, looking relived.

DREW

You are their hero.

The children bow to JULIA.

JULIA

There is no need to bow to me. I seek no worship. The knowledge that Reese Groin will never eat children ever again, is enough for me.

DREW

You are humble as well as brave!

One of the children passes JULIA a magical ring

DREW

I think they want you to have it, as a symbol of their gratitude.

JULIA

I couldn't possibly.

Pause.

JULIA

Well, if you insist.

JULIA takes the ring.

JULIA

Thank you.

The children bow their heads once more, and leave.

JULIA turns to DREW.

JULIA

Does this mean you want me back?

DREW

Oh, Julia, of course I want you back!

JULIA smiles for a few seconds, but then looks defiant.

JULIA

Well you can't have me.

DREW

WHAT?

JULIA

You had no faith in me. You had to see my scare a mysticon to death before you would believe in me. I don't want a lover like that.

DREW

But...

JULIA

Please leave. I want to spend time with the one person who stayed with me through thick and thin - my best friend, Sophia.

SOPHIA grins.

DREW

But...

SOPHIA

You heard the lady. Now be off with you. Skidaddle! Shoo!

DREW

Julia?

JULIA

I'm sorry Drew, but I think you shouldskidaddle.

DREW leaves.

SOPHIA turns to JULIA.

SOPHIA

Did you mean that? You know ... that I'm your best friend?

JULIA

Of course you are!

The two walk off arm in arm.

Suddenly SOPHIA stops.

SOPHIA

When I said I'm afraid of the dark, you know I was just trying to distract the mysticon don't you?
