"Don't you think they'll notice?" Inquired Alexander peering at his invitation with a certain gloom.
"Huh?" "Don't you think they'll not-" “Oh, nah. Nah I don’t think so" Enforced Frederick unable to control his excitement.
This time Alexander stopped and jumped in front of Frederick forcing him to reconsider. “Hey stop that” protested Frederick “you’re going to blow it for the both of us!”
“These aren’t even our invitations” Alexander waved the invitations around in a frantic worry “what if we get into trouble?”
His concerns were met by Frederick hushing him, and calmly announcing. “So what if the post man made a mistake, who cares we have them and we are invited. So let’s make the most of this and not worry. You worry too much and besides we spent too much time getting our selves ready.” Boasting of his elaborate dark blue suit that he brought moments ago.
None the less he made the possible danger of it all sound so pointless as if the risks were worth it.
Unable to continue his further objections, for deep in side he too really wanted to go.
“Fine, I suppose it wouldn’t be so bad. I guess.” They both began to laugh, unnervingly.
“and before you object to the fact that they don't know us. Look here, what does it say here.” Alexander recited the words coming from Frederick as he spoke, “We can’t wait to meet you" he chanted mournfully as they approached the magnificent House, coloured in splendid red with crystal windows and lavish golden ornaments that decorated the exterior.
It was truly a beauty to behold.
They stood for a moment making sure they took in the unnatural wealth before they entered through the grand open gates where a guard soon awaited them. “Calm down” whispered Frederick, probably anticipating Alexander’s response to the armed guard.
He did his best not to reveal any of his terrified nerves. He looked up, the guard looked back expecting a response. He passed the invitation timidly along with Frederick who smiled with glamour. The guard gently took them. looked at the invitations than back at them and once again at the invitations.
Eventually he passed it back to them without a word nor further movement, he just stood there. Bewildered Alexander also stood silent anticipating a response and when none came he began to desperately awaited the worse, readying any response to the accusation that was going be posed by the guard.
“You may enter, sir.” Announced the guard expectantly as he glared uncomfortably at Alexander.
“Oh, can I?” The guard looked puzzled, Frederick reached out to meet Alexander’s hand pulled him forcibly back, smiling and laughing unnervingly.
“Oh. Yes thank you.” Alexander called out whilst he was being harried further inside by Frederick into the lavish house. He was pulled to a corner by Frederick.
“what do you think your doing?” He asked in frustration
“I’m sorry, I’m not good at this.” Was Alexander’s sheepish reply. Frederick backed off slowly and waved his hands in motion to encourage him to follow him into what he presumed was the living room where their rich ‘friends’ awaited.
Alexander followed suite, with evert step trying desperately to keep him self together. “Calm down, calm down” he recited to himself. The entrance was a crimson curtain that was decorated by two gigantic golden lion constructs that shot out from the floor to the celling, the wallpaper its self was of a richly dark shade of purple. Decorated naturally with an excess of gold carvings depicting majestic mythical beasts.
Frederick was first to the breach through the curtains, he would see him again on the other side. Alexander stood still glaring blankly at the curtains, thinking of all the things that could go wrong once again feat gripped him, they were close perhaps too close for his comfort. They had after all never been to a dinner party yet alone to an aristocratic dinner party with fake identities and fake glamour.
Suddenly, there was a burst of courage inside Alexander as he was absorbed by the ornate crimson, he realised that it was his chance to finally have fun he needed to be more like Fred. And after all that had happened to him- he needed this, for his own sake.
This was going to be a night that he would never forget.
His eyes opened once again in a different world. Unable to contain the excessive splendour of the living room. Masses of refined artwork carefully flavoured the room, the monsters shinning crystal ball dazzled the room including the spectacular seating and guests in a radius of delight as the marble hearth gently raged on.
“The brothers of Vecheei!” Boomed the guard, passing back the invitations to Frederick.
The handful of guests standing on rare animal hides, turned to observe them with a certain interest. Alexander’s heart began to bellow, “they know, they know" he thought, sweating with every inch of his body.
Suddenly this was a bad idea once again, he quickly sought to find cover in the least suspicious way that he could behind Frederick.
He could tell that Frederick was about raise his discomfort and tell him to calm down. But they were disturbed by a well shaved gentleman wearing a pure white military uniform that allowed his medals to be shown off like the feathers of a male pheasant.
“I trust you have everything needed?” the man grimly put forward as he scratched his head. Frederick saw it fit to reply as ambiguous as he could to such a ambiguous question.
“Yes, we have everything we need to-"
“shh, are you made" hissed the man, his medals singing. “Do you want our plot to be discovered? I know I have never met you but for a pair of hired.” He paused clearly thinking of the best words to say
“you know, I expect you to job with digression.” He eventually stated, neither of them could find what to say and so stood silently as if waiting for something.
The man sighed, “I’ll send you someone when you are needed to do the deed. Meanwhile enjoy the refreshments.”
With that he barged through them and excited from the other room. Alexander feared not to speak a word and simply followed Frederick who was equally confused to a table.
Where they sat stuffing their faces with expensive smoked meats and other obscure constructs never seen by them that they could consume.
“what do you think that was?” whispered Frederick
“Your worried now? This was a bad idea, bad idea” Alexander almost forced himself up but was stopped by Frederick once again.
“will you cool it?” exclaimed Frederick silently, “it’s probably nothing now enjoy this free stuff" Half way though the sentence he had began cramming his mouth with roast pork and grilled olives.
“No meal is free" Alexander whispered back, looking around anxiously for any sign of the up coming danger awaiting them.
