Forbidden Love

2020 was already a train wreck of a year with the coronavirus, but what people didn't know is that the flu combined with covid would turn people into zombies. People that were already infected with covid and got the flu, soon started to turn pale. They craved brains and human flesh. They soon started to divide from the rest of humanity.

The United States was divided into two. On the west side of the United States were the zombies, and on the east side was humans. People who had family that were not infected could not see their family that were infected. They were limited to 20 minute zoom meetings. When they zoomed, the government would record the calls so they could monitor what they were saying.

The government was strict on their new zombie policies. Zombies were not allowed to eat humans so they were “vegan”. Their “vegan” was eating animals. Zombies were not allowed to go anywhere near humans in case of an accident. Right on the border that divided the zombies and humans there was a town called El Dorodo. Humans lived on one side and zombies on the other, with a big gate separating the two sides. The high school however, was right in the middle and was separated right down the middle.

Zombies weren't stupid and still had jobs and went to school like humans did. The only scientific difference between zombies and humans was their taste in food. Zombie kids still went to school and got educated while the zombie parents went to work to make money. In the town of El Dorodo human and zombie contact was minimal. Humans treated the zombies like outcasts and wanted nothing to do with them.

Max and Olivia were friends since birth and lived right across the street from each other. They played most of the same sports growing up and attended all of each other's performances. They were inseparable. Until Max and his family got covid. When Max was quarantined, Olivia would FaceTime him every day and they would talk for hours upon hours. After he recovered from covid, he was back to normal. They started getting closer and closer to each other and started to become more than childhood friends.

As time grew on, their relationship grew with them. They were seniors in high school and their relationship had endured high school. It started to become Fall and the weather was growing cold. Shortly after October had started, Max’s dad had gotten the flu and became infected. After a few days it got dangerous for the rest of the family to be in the same house as Max’s dad, but it was too late. The whole family was infected and had the flu.

The town ended up building a gate right down the middle of the street that Max and Olivia lived on. They were separated from each other and couldn't see each other. Max would call Olivia and they would talk for hours, but that was the only contact they could have with one another for a while. They would walk by each other on their sides of the fence when they were walking to school. Nobody knew if the zombie virus was contagious or not, but nobody wanted to test the possibility.

When Olivia and Max would meet up to walk to school they stayed more than six feet apart. They didnt know if their relationship would last due to the separation and the fact that Max always became hungry when he was around Olivia. Max didn’t want to hurt Olivia because he really cared about her and didn’t want anything to happen to her.

Max and Olivia thought they were being cautious with distancing themselves from one another, until Olivia's little brother started feeling under the weather. He got tested and he ended up having covid. Olivia’s family took all the precautions they could to get better and not catch the flu. All Olivia could think about was what would happen if she got the flu.

She would finally be able to hold Max again and see her family that had been infected. She constantly weighed the odds and thought getting the flu and being infected would be better than not being able to hold Max or see her family on the other side. Winter started to roll around and more cases of the flu were popping up. Olivia went to school one day and came home early. She said she didn't feel good so her parents took her to the doctors office.

After she got home, she decided to lay in bed and get some rest. Her mother got a call from the doctors office saying that Olivia had the flu and was developing the infection. The doctor told Olivia’s parents that they needed to keep minimal contact with Olivia and to get tested as soon as possible. Her family went and got tested immediately and their tests came back positive. It would be little time before they started having cravings. They knew they needed to contact the moving crews and get on the other side of the fence before anyone got hurt.

Two days later they moved to the other side of the fence. Max and Olivia were finally able to hold each other. Olivia’s family were transitioning very well and everyone was happy. Olivia’s family finally got to see their other family members. Max and Olivia soon graduated and went to college at Buttlor Community College. Max went for Agribusiness and Olivia went for nursing.

After they both graduated they took a trip to the coast. They walked on the beach and watched the sunset. Max got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. Olivia said yes and immediately started crying tears of joy. They got married and went on a honeymoon. They didn’t have many places that were zombie populated, so they went to the Bahamas. Two years later they had a baby boy and they named him Franklin. Even through a pandemic love will last.
