Fantasy

Charlotte soared through the air, looking down on the city of Little-ton. The wind flew by around her, giving her an exhilarating shiver through her body. It was only right that she be called 'Dove of the Sky' within her small measly town. She saved the people of Little-ton almost everyday! It was like, like...

A soft and peaceful buzz sounded beside Charlotte's face. She sleepily opened her eyes and saw her phone vibrating. Her phone had a pale pink case with large white clouds. She pulled her hand out from under the sheets and slid her finger around on the screen until it stopped. Then she closed her eyes and went back to sleep.

In front of her, laid out all across the cement floor, were yapping and tumbling puppies! They were all so cute! Charlotte felt her mother combing her daughter's curly pale blond hair. She leaned down and looked Charlotte dead in the eye.

“You can pick any puppy you want.” she announced. Excitement and confusion fizzed through Charlotte. She was allowed to get a puppy! But why? Who cared why? Except her parents had said that Charlotte had to turn 13 for them to consider it. The green-eyed girl gazed down at the puppies in front of her, There was one of every kind! Oh, how would she choose? Just then, a short, thin lady in a pale gray suit came up beside her. Charlotte stared at her and the lady stared back. Then she said, “Take two, please. We need to sell at least two so this place won’t be as crowded.” Charlotte’s mouth fell open. Two puppies! She closed her eyes and prayed for this not to be a dream. But, when she opened them again, she was in her bedroom!

Except, she thought it was her bedroom. Her bedroom had pale light yellow walls with soft blue clouds. This one had shining white walls that stretched higher than her school! In the middle of the room, a full set living room was there! Nothing like her two story apartment, that’s for sure. But as she got up and headed for the door, something pulled her back. Literally, pulling her backwards! Charlotte turned around so fast, her purple streaked blond hair flew in her mouth and eyes.

A golden-brown puppy was tugging at Charlotte’s black leggings, looking up at her with adorable brown eyes. She bent down and swept him up in her arms. He started licking her face, then sniffing and chewing her thumb, and then back to licking. Charlotte laughed, setting him down. He leaped at her again, but she started making her way outside her room. When she opened the door, Charlotte was back in her apartment back in New York! But then she looked back into her room and it was still very fancy! Charlottes head started buzzing with confusion. What was happening here? It was like the dream world and the real world had combined!

“Mom?” Charlotte called from upstairs. When she didn’t get an answer, she called again. “Mom? Dad?” This time, instead of silence, her call was retaliated with the cry of a baby. Charlotte was startled. When did she get a younger sibling? And a puppy? And when did they make so much money to renovate her room and not the rest of the house? So many questions flew around her head, giving her a massive headache. She stumbled through the halls to the spiral stairs and down, her puppy trailing behind her. She headed towards the kitchen, where the medicine was kept.

But coming downstairs just raised more question in her head. An young looking lady, about 21, was in their kitchen, sitting down in one of the island chairs, eating an apple and flipping through a cooking book. Charlotte opened and closed her mouth, the words she was going to say just disappearing. The lady turned around as Charlotte's puppy sneezed, smiling like they had known each other for years. “Oh, hello Charlotte.” she said, standing up and making her way to the fridge, “Would you like your lasagna now?” Charlotte nodded, unable to speak. Who was this lady? And then it hit her like a baseball bat. This was her grandma! But she lived in a different part of the city and rarely came to visit, too busy training her other daughter how to run the dress shop she owned. She didn’t even bother with Charlotte's family at all.

“Um, grandmere, what are you doing here?” Grandmere was french for grandma; Charlotte knew a lot of french because she was full french, no dents. Grandmere had gotten the lasagna out of the fridge and put it in the microwave. She returned to her seat at the island before answering. “I thought I told you already when I moved in.” she said, then sighed. “You’re working hard in school, so you probably forgot. Here, come sit. I’ll tell you again.” She gestured for Charlotte to sit down and she cautiously did so. “I’m getting old Charlotte. I’m tired of running the store and dealing with angry customers.” She paused then went on, saying, “I need to settle down somewhere and can’t live with your step-aunt Casey because she hates me. Do you understand?” Charlotte nodded, standing up to go get her lasagna and fork, then went up to her room. Since there was a TV in her room, she just watched while she ate her lunch. As she was finishing up, she heard her phone ring. Charlotte got up to get it and picked it up. As soon as she put the phone to her ear, three female voices started talking, very loudly, all at once. “Hey, slow down!” she practically yelled into the phone. There was silence for two seconds, then a girl's voice started talking. “Okay, so Emily heard from Cassandra, who heard from Lisa, who heard from Tiffany, who heard from Cody, who heard from Justin that Ben said he has feelings for you!” Charlotte heard squealing from the other end of the line. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened them again, she was in her old bedroom, with her old walls. She sat straight up in bed, and almost leaped out of her skin when she heard a bark. She looked down onto the floor to see the puppy from her dream sitting there, wagging his tail. He had a collar, that said Mocha.

What had happened to her dream world and why was the puppy out of it. Then, once again, reality slapped right across the face. It was her 13th birthday, so her parents had taken her to get a puppy as a present! And the baby crying must have been Charlotte's new little brother, Cody, who had been born a few days ago! She had had a dream crossed over with real life. How cool was that.

She got out of bed and took a deep breath. Now what was her first act of being a 13 year-old be?
